I was wanting to post this to see if anyone else has had this problem before. If you have what did you and your dr do about it? I am trying to find some answers. I posted this on the complications board and have not heard from but one person, so I was hoping to get some answers here. TIA STephanie Post Date: 5/12/07 6:22 pm I am almost 4 years post op and have just started having problems. First, I was diagnosised with severe anemia. Secondly, discovered that I have blood in my stool. Not sure how long that has been happening. Saw a surgeon and he suspects that I am bleeding from inside my pouch where they hooked up my intestines. He said that the acid producing part of the stomach is what they make the pouch is the acid producer of the full stomach and since my stomach has been split up the bottom half is not receiving the acid that it is wanting and so the pouch continues to make the acid, which in turns ends up producing to much acids which eats away at the pouch and the stoma. I was put on Zantac to help with the acid. I have been scheduled for an endoscopy at the end of this month. Thirdly, this past Tues early AM, I shot up in bed with severe puch pain. I have never experienced anything like it in my life. After that I have been unable to drink or eat anything without having pain in my pouch. I went to the dr on Tues. and they said that I was suffering from gastris and changed my medication to Nexium. The dr. told me that it would take effect with a day or two. This dr. was not my regular dr. On Wed. the pain was not subsiding so I went to the ER at the hospital where I had my surgery done in hopes to be seen my the surgeon that did the procedure. They took an abdominal x-ray and told me that everything structurally looked ok. Sent me on my way. Thursday, I followed up with my PCP and was still having pain when eating and drinking anything. He isolated the pain to the right side of the pouch. I believe that is where they hook us back up. I was also in tears and told him that I needed to get this resolved. He told me to go back to the basics, when I first got out of surgery. So clear liquids, cottage cheese, refried beans and eggs. Still when I eat those things and drink my water I still have pain. Has anyone gone through this before? I am needing support and some advice on what else I need to have the drs. check for. My email is [email protected] TIA Stephanie

You poor thing! I pray they get you fixed and am so sorry you are in such pain. Of course, it's not right to be in pain when you eat and drink. If this had happened within 6 month of your surgery, it would be easier to explain, but 4 years out, I don't know what to tell you. Good luck and hang in there. I hope you get results REAL soon!
