Hello Everyone I have my initial intake appointment with Mercy on Monday. However the suspense is killing me. I have been wondering for awhile how much protien they require one to purchase. I understand its two months worth of protien, but honestly how much is that. Is that like two huge containers? How many grams of protien? Is it like five pounds of dry mix or what? I am just dying to know. I know that they may have changed it since some of you had your surgeries but I'm dying to know. Help a sister out here Amanda

I'm not sure what Mercy recommends. Hopefully they won't require you to buy Optifast supplements. That is expensive. I should know ... I did Optifast 2 years ago! The Optifast supplements have 20g protein per serving which is usually 8oz of product. I actually still have some Optifast supplements I'm still using trying to lose some weight before surgery. For other supplements, I would recommend buying samples. I ordered the IDS New Whey Liquid Protein 42g online as well as Susan Maria's sample bag off the OH website. I guess it all depends what your palate can tolerate too. That's why I suggest samples first. I did find a supplement High 5, 26g protein and 1 scoop mixes with about 1 oz of water. I have the French Vanilla ... but it tastes more like coconut vanilla. The neat thing about this one is it lasts for 4 hours ... I had 1oz of this and only that for lunch one day and I was not hungry at all! Keep in mind, this is pre-op. It's not cheap though. I paid $49 for the tub ... and I think it has 45 servings in it. Thinking of you!!!!! Let us know how your appointment goes! Jillybean

Hi Amanda, I just had my surgery in November at Mercy. Tracy is the one that checks your receipts. They are just looking to make sure you have the proper mineral and vitamins when you get home because after surgery you will not feel like shopping. I bought two of the 3 lbs containers of Isopure from the internet (www.atomicnutriction.com) It was the cheapest I found the Isopure and I shopped around. I bought two bottles of the multi-vitamins, a container of liquird B-12 and a bottle of iron all from Wal-Greens. Then I got the Citrate Calcium Chews at Wal-Mart. I bought like 3 boxes but I would recommend only buying a box and maybe a container of Tums. Many people don't like the calcium chews including myself. Tracy was satisfied with what I had gotten, and I was afraid I didn't have enough. Be prepared to spend about $100-$125. I hope this helps.
