I went to both centers yesterday and today and have made a choice as to which center. I am so very excited!! I went to Dsm Bariatric and at first I was like man this seems so easy I think I will go with this. But than I began to weigh the surgery itself and the method used and was like no I do not think I could go with the open. The program almost seemed to easy to get into and that scared me. This is not a slam to them, just not what I need. Soooo I picked Mercy. I think they make you work for what you get and follow you better. They also offer the Lap RNY and I must have that if at all possible. I want to make sure I am going with a program that makes me work for success and not take it for granted. Thanks to all that gave me input and listened to my confusion. Velda

Velda, Congratulations on making a choice. My thoughts were I would prefer the Lap RNY instead of the open, BUT I have to trust my surgeon Dr. Coster in Grinnell. Although I live in WDM, it's not the most convenient surgeon for me, however with the recommendations and reviews he had, and especially after meeting with him this past Thursday, I trust him fully and will have the Open RNY. His Open RNY lasts only 30 minutes for surgery, whereas the Lap RNY is 1 1/2 to 2 hours or more. Plus, with the excess skin I'll have after all the weight loss, the tummy tuck I'll have will essentally remove the 6" scar I'll have from Open RNY because of how they pull it down. Good luck. Velda, I went to several different doctors and was very pleased with Mercy's center and the so far the after care that I was given. I could not do the open how ever vanity that might sound I just could not choose that at that time. I have small children and I wanted to make sure that I did not have the care once home from the hospital as it would of been with the open. Good luck with your choice as I have been pleased with Mercy and the care there. Deanne

Congrats on your decision. I'm sure it wasn't made easily. Mercy does make you work for the surgery but it is all for your own good. They are really careful with there program and I think that helps people do so well with there plan.
