I posted this on the main board, but thought I'd add it here too. Well, after waiting 3 weeks for a letter from my PCP, we finally got one, but it wasn't good at all. She documented the 3 visits where I had discussed weight loss, the first visit she suggested I see a dietician, which I did, the 2nd visit she suggested I try Meridia which I declined to do because I had heard about some bad side effects, so she suggested diet & exercise again, then the last visit which I discussed WLS with her and she said she did not recommend it, ( that was 2 years ago). Anyways, her letter basically said that she would not recommend weight loss surgery (which she called stomach stapling surgery) and she'd recommend that I try diet and exercise again. Obviously not helpful, so the bariatric center said they would throw that letter out. They asked if I thought any other doctors I've been to would write a letter. Well, I've only seen my RE (reproductive endocrinologist) twice, but when I last saw him in October he was very very supportive of WLS and even told me some success stories of some of his patients overcoming infertility, PCOS, etc... So he highly recommended it. Anyways I called his office yesterday, and his secretary said that he is used to writing these type of letters and is usually pretty quick about it (we have to have approval by the end of the year). She called this morning saying it was done and e-mailed it to me this afternoon, here is what it says, think it'll be good enough? She has had a problem with morbid obesity for a number of years and has tried a variety of weight loss mechanisms to no avail. As you know, polycystic ovarian syndrome carries with it a number of metabolic downsides and significant cardiovascular morbidity. We would strongly recommend bariatric surgery for health reasons. Sweet letter, that is pretty cool of him to do that. You have got to find a PCP that is ready, willing and able to work with you. That is foremost!! Get a new Dr. We are paying them to help us treat our problems, but ignoring a possible solution to so many side health issues, your current PCP isn't treating the WHOLE you. I say ditch the ignorant and find someone who will be able to help you post op, and who knows that this isn't stomach stapling! Dumb health care professionals drive me Batty!!
