Insurance Pre-Approval / Pre-Authorization?

Funny I didn't think about this until now, but do I need to get my insurance pre-authorization started before having a consultation for WLS? My internist set up my consultation with Dr. Coster (Grinnell) for 12/7 and I'm still waiting for their packet (requested twice since 11/3). So, getting down to the wire on this, I just don't want to get the cart in front of the horse and be dissapointed if next week is postponed because I didn't know. Thanks! Jillybean

I did not have to be pre-authorized to have a consultation for WLS. You can call your insurance to ask but it is just a consultation appt. so nothing set in stone yet I am sure he will go over things and if you are a good canidate for the WLS. Just my opinion though. I would call your insurance though and see what requirements you need to have the surgery if that is what you are thinking. (example sleep study, diet and exercise history, health history, etc) I did that before any of my consultation appts. Deanne

wow Jillybean I cant believe you havent gotten the packet yet. That is weird. I was just there Friday-got my butt chewed for not taking better care of myself. they are now recommending this weekly psychotherapy meeetings on Wednesdays-and want me togo them, I think they look good, and Stefanie really is excited too. You will go thru Stefanie a lot before the surgery, their PAC good luck! Judi
