Always feeling bad....
My surgery was recent, Nov. 7th, and I was hoping some rookies could help me out a little bit. I am always feeling icky. When I try to drink my protein my stomach just turns, when I take my vitamins it is the same feeling. And the worst is the calcium chews. (YUCK!) Basically, anything I put in my mouth makes my stomach just turn. I don't actually vomit or haven't yet. But it just makes me not want to take the stuff that I need. Water is the only thing that doesn't irritate me too much. Is this normal in the beginning stage? And of course since I am not getting nutriction in my body, I am always feeling tired.

I felt the same, I am now about 3 weeks out and actually I feel pretty good. I hate the creamy bites also, so they suggested that I take some Tums to get my calcium in. I take 5 a day and that is actually a little more than 1500.
As far as the protein powder I have to say that I chose the Unjury and it is the best, mixes with water very well. I start out my day with 2 scoops (40g) in warm to a little hotter water with cho or vanilla or 1 scoop of each really does taste like coco. They suggest that you drink something warm in the morning to relieve you of the excess mucus, such as broth , decaf tea or just ho****er.
I hope that you are at least able to get and walk for 20 minutes or so, if not work up to it I feel so much better after I get done. Believe me it can only get better.
Good luck at let me know if you need anything!

I'm not a rookie, my surgery was almost 2 years ago. Your icky stomach might be because it has mucous in it. See if you can take a dose of liquid Benedryl and then force yourself to get some protein in. The benedryl will clear up the mucous and the protein will put some food/nutrition in there. Your energy level will pick up if you can force yourself to get the minimum protein requirement in. I know, I had to literally FORCE myself. I took the liquid Prostat and it was awful tasting, but it was like taking a dose of medicine and after taking it, I would feel better. This is just a time in your life when you are going to just have to make yourself do it. Try to just focus every day on getting in enough water and getting in the 60 grams of protein. You have to do it, or you are not going to heal quickly and you will lose muscle mass and your hair is going to fall out by the handfuls. But seriously, call your dr and aks if it is OK for you to take the Benedryl to see if it improves your upset stomach. It did a world of good for me.
Hang in there,
jean
Everyone thanks for your replies, I will try some of the ideas. Today, I did eat some refried beans before I tried to choke down the protein shake and the other sweet tasting vitamins and that helped a little. I never throught of having mucus in my belly because I am not coughing or hacking anything up.
Jean,
I used the term rookie wrong, I actually met the experienced people. I have an appointment with my surgeon tomorrow so I will ask her about the benadryl.
Holly,
It sounds like you are doing very well. I am so glad to hear that. Are you going to the meeting on Tuesday night? Tomorrow I will ask my surgeon about the tums. The funny thing is I bought alot of those citracal bites because they said we needed to months worth. I am not sure if it is to late to take the ones I did not open back. I tried the Unjury that they gave us for samples before surgery and could not stomach the taste. I am on Isopure, to me it isn't bad but not something I look forward too either. It is almost like it is too sweet. I have been walking a little bit but just get so pooped.
