1 week from today!
At this time, in a week, my surgery should be done. I started my liquid diet today, and I have my last pre-surgery meeting on Wed.
I'm trying to get all my "ducks in a row," and would really appreciate advice/and or links about what I need to do to get ready. I've been reading a lot, attended the required bariatric meetings and sessions, but now that it's become a reality, I could use some input.
I ordered a sample basket from bariatriceating.com, and Unjury, so I'm trying a few just to get used to how to mix them, etc.
I'm open to any and all advice or suggestions - reality is starting to set it...
I'm not sure what you want advice on but here are some tips.
First, don't take much to the hospital with you. You won't read, sew, do puzzles. Just take the basics, robe, slippers, chap stick and your toiletries.
Depending on how heavy your are now, you may have problems wiping your behind after surgery. You might want to take a wooden spoon to use, wrapping the toilet paper around that.
Whatever you think you need on hand for food afterwards, quarter that. I still have clear protein drinks left and I'm 2.5 yrs out! You probably won't be able to stand the taste once you are past the clear liquid stage. For full liquids, I did double milk - 1 C skim, 1/3 C non-fat pwd milk, and SF Nestle Quick to taste. Yum.
Remember to take lots of tiny sips. Big drinks hurt a lot. Don't push the food. I see too many new postops trying to eat steak and Chinese at 4 days post op. Be smart and follow your doc's program. If you have questions, ask him. That's why you pay him. We're here in a pinch, but none of us have medical degrees. We can only guess and it probably isn't even an educated guess!
Make good use of the first 9 months. Lose all you can because it comes to a screeching halt at 9-12 months. That's not to say you can't still lose, but it gets a lot harder.
Don't be afraid to talk to a therapist if you have eating issues, and who of us don't! The surgeon can fix your tummy, but it's up to you to fix your brain.
Good luck and you soon will be a loser!
Lynn,
Your info was exactly what I was looking for!
I guess I don't even really know what to ask - I thought I had prepared myself - but as the date nears, I find myself trying needing even more info. The non-fat powdered milk and SF Nestles Quick sounds like a great idea!
And the wooden spoon? That would make things MUCH easier! Never would have thought of it.
Thanks again
Be sure to take feminine supplies because I promise, you will need them. OK, not EVERYBODY starts immediately post op, but I did and I have heard this over and over and over from other women that they did, even if it wasn't their time. So be sure to take your own, because what the hosp provides sucks.
