Heeeerrrrrreeee'sss PHIL!
Hi, Everone, Sorry it took so long to post but this chair at the computer has me sitting at an angle that something doesn't like too well.
Spent a couple days in ICU and was discharged from there Friday evening with orders to have oxygen 24/7 for a few weeks to help with the healing. It isn't as much fun walking down the sidewalk with an O2 tank in front of you, but something I have to adjust to. Turns out I only have about 60% O2 in my blood where they want it to be at least 90%.
Things have been going better every day. Like I said, being hooked up to O2 makes me sit around and watch TV all day when I could be somewhere walking so it's real boring. Had my swallow test today so I was able to get out and walk abit in controlled environment. I also popped a couple of stitches on my G tube so I stopped at the weight loss clinic and Tracy checked me out to see if it was serious. (It wasn't).
ON Aug 20th I weighed 357 lbs. and this morning I weighed in at 325. It's scary because I don't recognize the guy in the mirror already. I feel that at this pace I should feel sickly, but other than the drains in my gut and the hose in my nose, I'm feeling rather chipper, considdering.....
Last Sunday I got a call from my brother in Ankeny telling me he had some lymph nodes and part of his carotid Artery removed because of a cancerous lump on his neck. That and the fact that my sister here in Des Moines fell a couple weeks ago and broke her hip makes me wonder what will be next. Throw a couple prayers toward the Dally family, it feels we're an endangered species with us all in the hospital.
Looking foward to Thursday when I quite possibly get my JP tube and this little black bag that has been hanging around my neck pumping novacaine removed, and...get to eat some beans?!? Oh Joy!
I'll keep in touch and want to thank all for their thoughts and prayers through my surgery.
Take care
Phil
Yeah I know what you mean about the oxygen I had that on 24/7 for 2 years but a few months after my surgery I didn't need it anymore it was emnarrassing at the age of 37 pushing an oxygen tank around. Well nice to hear your home and doing well and allready doing great on your weight loss woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!1 you wont recognize your self by this time next year. I wish you the best.

Phil, IT IS SOOO good to hear from you! I am very glad things are going well for you and WOW what a weight loss already!! That is awesome. I am very happy for you. I can NOT WAIT to be on the losing side. I will be at the meeting in Sept so if your up for it..try to be there so we can finally meet!
Janine
Glad to hear from you!!!!!! Sounds like your doing good considering you just had major surgery. It's good to hear your feeling ok. Your weight loss is GREAT. I know how you feel about not recognizing yourself. With time it gets harder and harder to recognize the person looking back in the mirror at you. I'm over a year out and still have problems with that. So what is going to be first eggs, beans or cottage cheese? I think that is the 3 things they move you up to. It will feel a lot better once you get the tubes out. I hope you can get the first one out Thursday. I will be sending my prays for you and your family. Take care and hope to see you in the September meeting. Keep up the good work and sip tha****er and rest. You'll be back to normal soon!!
Bye
Melissa
HEY buddy! Good to hear you're up and around... I was in for a checkup at Mercy Capitol yesterday and asked how you were doing and they said you were having your UGI today. Glad to hear you're all sealed up...I was going to call your wife today if we hadn't heard from you.
That stinks about the O2, but if it's gonna speed up the healing process, it's worth the little bit of annoyance. 32 lbs is awesome, but just wait becasue it gets sooo much better...
Stay in touch and let us know if we can help at all...
Looking forward to seeing you at the meeting in September!
