Coventry...hello? Is this thing on?
I have Coventry of Iowa and I have been reading some pretty bad things about them as far as approvals go. Can anyone give me any advice to get an initial request through, or, if not, an appeal? Anything that they look for that they don't tell you outright? I was reading my EOB and the qualifications seem very simple, but there were so many stories of denial...how can they deny you if you meet all of their criteria and have done everything they ask? Any advice would be very appreciated.
When i was in the approval process almost 2 years ago, they said at Mercy Capitol that practically no one with Coventry gets approved UNLESS you were a postal worker. Everyone else had specifice exclusions in their policies.
I would recommend calling them (Coventry) and asking if they have a specific exclusion for weight loss surgeries. If they say no exclusions, then ask exactly what criteria must be met to be considered for approval. It may not be too hard to meet the criteria.
The people at Mercy Capitol are pretty good with staying on top of this stuff, so letting them submit for you would be a good idea assuming you go with that program. But definitely call Coventry yourself.

I had Coventry of Iowa and my plan had an exclusion. I was able to switch insurance companies with my work and got an insurance that covered it. If I were you I would just call them and ask them what the requirements for WLS are. They will be able to tell you if it is a covered benefit. Good luck!!!
