Okay, how many carbs should you have on a daily basis? I had a banana today (and using fitday.com) and it says it was 28 carbs. WOW...So far I am at 606 calories, 35 grams of fat, 46 grams of carbs, and 29 grams of protein. (I'm assuming they are in grams). How about fat? I had some ranch dressing on my salad and that was 23 OUCH...

Speaking as someone very early out I can tell you I don't count my carbs or fat grams. The only thing I watch is the protein grams. I'm sure that will probably change as I get further out though. That being said, I can tell you that pretty much the only carbs I'm getting right now come from the viativ calcium supplements I'm taking. There might be a couple of grams in my protein supp also.

Janine, as far as a post op diet goes.....I believe the nutritionists at Mercy Capitol say no more than 2 grams of sugar. While carbs and sugar are basically both sugar, they work differently in your body (despite what Dr. Atkins may have taught you in all our years of dieting). I can't remember now what the recommended table for carbs was, but I believe she insisted that no more than 2 grams of sugar could be consumed by a new post op. That's they push Isopure and Prostat. Most of these protein powders at Wal-mart and such are more than 2 grams of sugar. And this is even good rule for almost 2 year post op....yesterday I ate some cereal that I thought was healthy, not looking at the label. Within ten minutes I was dead tired, needed desperately to lie down and take a nap. (This is my dumping syndrome). My husband looks at the label of the cereal and low and behold it was something like 20 grams of sugar. It wasn't too bad on carbohydrate, but the actual sugar level was huge. No wonder. Then today I eat a piece of whole wheat toast, and I look at the label (I don't eat much bread), and it has only 2 grams of sugar but it had 13 gram of actual carbohydrate. I feel fine after eating it. So, what is my point you may ask (assuming you are still with me)....don't worry so much about the grams of carbohydrate and concentrate on how many grams of SUGAR. The dietitician at Capitol will cover this with you, if she hasn't already. jean
