I have been doing so well and I am so close to goal - I have been practcing excellent eating habits and working to get my protein in and working to avoid anything with sugar or anything fried. HOWEVER, for the last two weeks I have been snacking like a maniac. I wander looking for something to snack on. Oh sure, I am chosing low cal and not eating sugar or fried stuff but I am eating all the time. SO MUCH SO that I am having trouble getting my fluids in because I can't drink because am always in the waiting period after eating. I have not gained any pounds but this is clearly not healthy. Here is what I ate today: 1 slice toast with PB (10g protein) 1 banana 1 granola bar (low sugar/also low protein!) 1 serving chocolate rice cakes 1 serving chocoloate rice cakes 1 snack baggie with cherries asparagus and salisbury steak (20g protein) 1 small bowl fresh fruit (grapes, stawberry, pineapple, melon) 1 sugar free fudge bar few bites peaches and 1 hamburger patty w/ cheese (13g protein) 2 c milk (16g protein) 1 protein drink (10 g protein) ANOTHER SF fudge bar cheese and crackers (7 g protein) WHAT IS GOING ON HERE! I have eaten 12 times today over 1900 calories- this is nuts! Has anyone else gone through this raging snack mode and what did you do to snap yourself back out of it? I am completely freaking out. I am going back to basics tomorrow- writing everything down I eat and I am throwing out the carbs- rice cakes and granola bars and crackers- obviously I am not yet ready to incorporate these carbs back into my diet in a healthy way. Has anyone else been through this? -Nan

I have not run into this problem yet but I probably can and will in the future. My question is this, "Are you sure you are not thirsty when you think you are hungry"? I have caught myself wanting food but what my body really wants is fluid. I guess my head is what wants the food. Have you tried drinking something before eating the snack? Glad you have a plan to confront this problem. Zap it!

I have been doing the same thing. I'm the same way I haven't gained anything but I haven't lost either. I'm a year out and I'm at my surgeons goal but I would like to lose another 10 pounds. I started the 10 day plateau breaker diet today. I hope this will help me stop snacking and also jump start the weight loss. Today is treat day at work so I think I picked a good day to start. This will show me I can say NO. At the beginning it is so easy to say no but the the farther out you get it gets harder. So for the next 10 days I have made a commitment to not snack and to follow the plateau breaker rules. Good luck!!! I know it is hard.

I see a big problem right from the git go. Way too many carbs. When you eat that many carbs, especially the crackers, bread and rice cakes, your body starts to crave more and more carbs. Go back to protrein and water for at least 3 days and you won't be wanting yo graze as much. Also watch the amount of artificial sweeteners. That can be a trigger for some people.

I completely agree with Connie! If at any time I think I'm starting to snack to much - and what you pointed out yourself - I immediately look at what I've drank. I think many times people confuse needing the fluid, for needing food. Now that I'm pregnant, and I really need to make sure what I eat, counts - I make sure to get my fluid in first. If I'm feeling hungry mid morning, I make sure that I've had all of my water. Surprise, surprise, I'm usually not hungry like I thought! (or had been feeling) Really though, that's the key. You know you don't need those snacks, but you do need the fluid - which you aren't getting. So focus on that, and I bet anything, the snacks will start falling away. Good luck!
