Just got out of the hospital--again
Well, everyone I was just released from Mercy Capitol a couple of hours ago. Turns out they really mean it when they tell you to make sure you are getting all tha****er in! I saw Dr. Smolick for my 2 week post op visit on Wednesday and I mentioned that I was always very aware of my heart beating. Turns out my pulse that day was 147. When I was seen 7/6/06 for my 10 day post op visit it was 132. Normal is 60-100. Dr. Smolik sent me to my PCP who just happens to be in the Mercy Capitol Professional Bldg. She admitted me immediately to the hospital. Wouldn't even let me go home to get my stuff. My potassium was also very low. I knew I wasn't hitting my water goal, but I didint' think I was doing THAT badly. I had been steadily increaseing every day and the day before I was seen I had gotten in 52 oz. But they think it was a combination of dehydration and stopping my beta blocker cold turkey that did it. Anyway I spent two days back in Mercy Capitol and got used for a pin cushion and hopefulyy all is well now.
Hydration is important for all of us, not just the new post ops. Case in point, when I had my tummy tuck, I ended up back at the hospital for fluids because I was dehydrated. And I was getting in at least 64 oz. But with the blood loss, I just couldn't catch up.
So everyone be especially careful during this hot weather. We seem to dehydrate faster than the average bird.
