My hair has been falling out for about 2 months now and it's not showing any signs of stopping!!! I have increased my protein to about 80 grams per day which isn't easy to do and I have even started to take Biotin every day. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I started with think hair and now my hair is very thin, especially on the top. Has anyone ever lost all their hair? What is the usual time it takes for it to finally stop? I've heard anywhere from 3 to 7 months.

My hair was falling out also and I started taking Zinc. It is recommended by my dr. I still lose some but nothing like I was before. It may help you. Cindy

Barb, according to my surgeon and his staff, the major hair loss is a completely normal and pretty much predictable side effect from this surgery. The target time for it is 4-6 months post op. This fit my experience exactly. Sometimes, even when a person is consuming even up to 100 grams of protein a day, they still have significant hair loss. So, please know that you are very likely doing everything you can and that this is not your fault. It's just how it is. When mine started, I started using Nioxin shampoo and conditioner. I would like to think that this helped some. My husband, who also has thin hair (that man thing), swears that Nioxin makes his hair fuller. So, we continue to use it, even though my hair is fine now. My best recommendation to you is to make sure you get the minimum of 60 grams of protein per day (more is better), and taking your vitamins. I am partial to Vista. And finally to be using Nioxin shampoo. Then the last thing to do is just to wait. This is a much more severe problem in some people than in others and according to my dr., there is not necessarily anything that can be done about it. Just remember that this will pass and your hair will all come back. You have still done something tremendous for the rest of your life (having this surgery) and the hair loss is a small blip in the big scheme of things, despite how distressing it is to you right now. Hang in there and try not to worry! jean

Hey Jean how long did your hair keep falling out before it stopped? Mine started at 4 months and it's almost 6 1/2 months now. I know it's a small price to pay for good health, but you're right, it's kind of distressing. LOL

Gosh, I don't remember exactly.....but I do remember that when I had lost a 100 lbs, sometime around the 6-7 month mark, my friend colored my hair to mark the event for me, and I distinctly remember her remarking about all the new hair growth she could see on my head as she did my hair. That made me happy. And I knew I could count on her NOT to lie to me. jean
