Hello everyone, well I thought I would be able to get the surgery sooner than I thought. I went to the informational class last week sometime at the Genesis Medical Center in Davenport and they said that you can't weigh more than 400 pounds and I weigh about 50 pounds over that So I have to loose 50+ pounds before I can even get the surgery. I'm truely disappointed. But they did say that they can help me loose the weight that I need to get the surgery done. They said the reason why it's only 400lb. limit is because of the CT scanning machine can only hold that much So hopefully I am able to loose the weight I'm being very pesimstic right now I want to loose it but I haven't had luck with loosing weight, I mean if I did do you think I would be having the surgery, LOL! Does anyone have any suggestions to what I can do to loose the weight in a timely manner? My biggest weakness is drinking Soda and eating cereal late at night. Lol I know I have to stop that and I stop drinking soda. Well I'm about to go talk to you guys later.

Well I think you have the idea.......The pop and cereal have to go or at least switch to diet pop, but even that seems to make me hungry! I think the best way to lose pre-op weight is with a strict protein diet. It is hard, but so worth it if you can lose the 50lbs and get the surgery. Plus it prepares you for post-op life as we focus mainly on protein. I tell ya I wish I would have never started to eat bad carbs, it is so much easier leaving them behind forever! Of course they want you to lose the weight for the CT machine, and it might make surgery easier, but I know there are places that do operate on people 400lbs and more. Did you call around to other places also? Are you willing to drive a couple hours? Otherwise get serious about the protein only diet (atdkins, protein power, south beach) and maybe Genesis can do all the pre-op stuff now and try for insurance approval, that way when the 50lbs is off you will be set to go with the surgery!!! Best of luck and take care jesi

Deidre I weigh about the same and I am going to Grinnell I just got approval from insurance. At their hospital all the equipment is built for a person that weighs a 1,000 pounds. Maybe you should consider calling and trying to get in with them. Its surgical associates in Grinnell Iowa. If you would be interested let me know and I will send you the phone number or maybe suggest it to your doctor and see what they say. I seen them June 16th and right away they put me on prenatal vitamins and high protein diet. I think they did prenatal because I have a problem with my B12 level. Don't get discouraged things will work out, just remember you have everyones support here.
