Back to getting real

Okay, I fell off the wagon hard! I had oral sugery Wed AM and was totally freaked out about it. I have great teeth, only a crown and a couple fillings in one tooth. But I had a brown spot on my top front tooth that I thought was a popcorn hull at first. So I dug around and freaked out because I thought it was a cavity! So I go to the dentist. He said it wasn't a cavity and I said good. He said not good because it was external resorption. The cells of my tooth had decided it didn't recognize the cells and it was attacking itself! It's pretty rare. Figures. He sees about one case a year. Ususally it's all above the gum line and before you know it's there, you lose the tooth! So I was really, really freaked out. So he opened up the gum, cleaned it all out and filled it. I was very, very lucky that I saw it and caught it early. I most likely will keep the tooth, thank goodness. Anyway, being freaky about just regular dentist appointments, he gave me valium before hand. I was pretty happy all morning! Sleepy, but happy. Ususally it's only caught when a person has x-rays. There isn't anything you can do to prevent it. Scary. So since I was so stressed out about that, I haven't been good. Then we went up to my mom's and that stresses me so I'm starting again tomorrow. I saw a blerb in the paper this morning about gastric bypass patients having an increased rate of blindness due to vitamin A deficiency. Anyone have their Vit A levels checked? I have my 2 year coming up and will be asking about that. That's all from Des Moines this evening. Tomorrow is a new day and I will control this destructive eating behavior! I WILL! Lyn

I can so relate to going to the dentist. I HATE it. That sure is good you caught your tooth problem early. You don't want to have to pay $500 for a fake front tooth like I had to. Tomorrow is a new day. You can start again. It's never too late. Cindy

This is a great post. I'm sure there is nothing you could have done to prevent this, but you did put a good reminder to us all to take our vitamins and get our blood your done. I'm not good at remembering. I do good for a week then forget a few days. I need to not forget those days. Glad to hear they could fix the tooth. And today is a new day!!!!
