One week away...

Any suggestions as I prepare to change my life in one week? I have gotten myself into a good frame of mind and cut out a lot of the bad things I was doing before (drinking more water, no pop, no fast food, etc). But is there any advice on how to make the most of my alst few days (not I don't mean binge eating!) I am strangely contemplating a "last" letter to my family. I am confident everything will go fine but every once in a while it creeps in that there could be complications. Is this crazy to want to write a letter? I get a little sad when I think about my son (3 1/2) and wife and all I might miss if something were to happen. But I feel better knowing all the things I won't miss out on once I have surgery and get in better health! Anyways, I am counting down and am the first surgery on Monday June 19 at Mercy Capitol in Des Moines. Wish me luck! Blake

Congrats Blake on your upcomming wls. That's a good idea to start making changes before surgery. I did and it has helped allot. It''s normal to be nervous before surgery, I know I sure was. Didn't feel the need to do a letter as I had many talks with the loved ones before. Do what feels right to you. You will be on the loser side in no time. Cindy

Blake I left everything in Gods hands he watched over me and my Dr during surgery and everything went great you are doing the right thing now by cutting all the bad foods out before surgery and let me say the weeks that follow your surgery you will have cravings for the things you cut out of your life but stay strong and know you are doing this for a healthier life for you and your family I can say honestly this surgery wasnt nearly as bad as I had my mind set everything will go fine . Best of luck ,may God be with you Sheila

Hey Blake, I'm exactly one week after you. My surgery is Monday, June 26th. I haven't started getting nervous yet, but I'm working on getting all my vitamins and stuff together. I went to GNC and stocked up on Isopure yesterday. I'm working really hard not to gain any weight. They called me in one day the week before last and said that several people had gained weight and gotten their surgeries cancelled. That scared the crap out of me. I had my last supper on Friday night--tenderloin and onion rings from Smitty's. I promptly gained two pounds!! Oh well, I have two weeks to get rid of it. I thought about writing letters but decided against it. I'm not worried about needing those letters.

Man time has sure went fast. It seems like yesterday that I was reading that you got a surgery date. It sounds like your doing a lot of stuff to get ready for surgery. I didn't write a letter to my family but I did think about doing it, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. You are in good hands there at Mercy. Good luck.

Way to go Blake!! Congrats!! I didn't write a letter, but I was scared to death before the surgery. Now, 6 months later, I'm almost at my goal and feel so much better than before. I am also off the prescriptions I was taking before. You'll do fine. Like others have said, leave it in God's hands and He'll take good care of you. I found that the surgery wasn't nearly as bad as I thought and I would do it again in a heartbeat too. Just think, you'll be on the losing side in a few days! Good luck!! Barb

Best of luck in the next few days. Remember to relax, sip water (as soon as allowed) and move around a lot. Of course you have to take it easy, but those short little walks now and again really help move the gas and get ya to feeling better! About the letters.....I wrote them to my immeidiate family. My kids were young and I wanted them to know a few things just in case.....I didn't think of it as morbid.....but sh*t happens and you can never be to prepared!!! Other than that....take care and wishing you a smooth surgery with a super speedy recovery jesi
