2 Week Check Up Over!
I had my two week post -op check up yesterday with my surgeon. Everything is going great, according to her. She doesn't even think that I will have much scarring after all is said and done. I have lost 27 lbs so far so that was awesome! Also, Im now having trouble getting my protein in, any suggestions???
2 weeks out and trouble getting in protein.....thats kinda expected! I don't think I got all my protein in for a good while. The first month it is more important to be getting all your fluids in for sure.....the protein will come with time! Are you allowed protein shake or milk or what? I was told NO PROTEIN SHAKES.....we had to do double milks....1 cup of skim milk and 1/3 cup powdered milk.....Gross, I think it ruined me for milk forever. I did finally start to flavor it with almond extract and stuff. The milk did start to make me sick, so I did my own research and found REALLY good protein powders that had a lot less calories than the double milks and more protein, so I switched But I was also WAY honest and let the nurse and surgeon know. If you can do the protein powders I would be more than happy to send you some samples of the ones I find yummy! Let me know~Take Care and best of luck with the continued journey. Oh and my scars were almost gone after a year.....mine faded fast! jesi
It is really hard to get all your protein in at first. I still have days I don't get it all in, and I'm almost 10 months out. I get it in food now but at first I didn't gt much in. Are you on to beans and eggs and cottage cheese yet? Those are all good protien and that is normally what they have you eat after the water broth and suger free jello. Good job on the weight loss. keep up the good work.
I am to the beans, eggs, and cottage cheese stage. I was so excited the day that I could move on from the jello, water, and broth, but now I am also getting bored and tired of those three items. I dont think that the eggs are sitting well anyways because I always get hiccups and the frothy spit up after I eat them and don't feel well for a hour or so. So I think that Im going to go only to bean and cottage cheese for the last 4 days of this.
Jesi, I can have protein shakes or whatever. I bought tons of samples from Isopure and then the pre-mixed Isopure stuff. I can handle the pre-mixed stuff way better than the powder stuff but both are nasty to me. The pre-mixed has 40g protein whereas the powder has 50g so Ive been mostly trying the powder. But then that defeats itself because I end up throwing it away because its so gross. But it is good to know that most people don't get in all the protein. I was afraid I was behind already!!! And it seems like my boyfriend has spy cameras in the house when he is not here sohe can check to see if I am doing everything the doctors/nurses say to a tee!! I know its because he cares but sometimes its overwhelming with everything else that I have going on right now!!!
Darcy,
Keep up the great work. I have not had the surgery yet but am going to the informational meeting tomorrow night at Mercy. I was just wondering the other day how you were getting along. I can not imagine the overwhelming feeling that you are having right now but you can do this and we will be right here for you if you need anything. I am getting excited to start my own journey...and I am sure I will have questions like you do.
Keep up the great job.

I have to agreeit is very hard to get the protien in I will be two weeks out tomorrow and I seen Dr on Monday I was at 25 down I have been doing yogurt, eggs and I have tried to mix my protien in to everything and it just dont taste right but I am sure we will both try to find a good way to get it in and I was told to get 60 grams of protien a day so good luck you are doing great
How are you fixing your eggs? I did a soft scramble with cheese melted in and they seemed to stay down. But there was a fine line there and if they were a little more cooked, up they came. You might want to try cooking them a little less and add shredded cheese to them to keep them soft. As far as the double milk, you can add sugar free Nestle Quick to it and blend it with a few ice cubes and it makes a nice thick shake.
