Hey everybody,
I just go back home from San Francisco yesterday afternoon. I just want to say that I had a wonderful experience there. Dr. Cirangle and his entire team are the BOMB! I tried to keep a journal while I was there, but was only able to jot down a few notes. However, I've been trying to write down everyting I remember so that I can post it on my blog. My boyfriend and I thought it would be a good idea to share my experiene with others, so that future patients may have something to refer to.
To be honest, it was not what I expected it to be. I guess I was preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. Well, I got the best. :) I thought that I would be in a lot more pain and be sick all the time, but it all went so smoothly once I got to the hospital. There wasn't much pain and I was able to walk around with my IV machine (hehehe) the day of my surgery. It wansn't too easy the first time, but after that it was a piece of cake. It got easier and easier to get in and out of bed each time to use the restroom and then go and take a walk.
I am so happy right now I would jump up and down if I could. I remember waking up in the recovery room and I couldn't stop smiling. I must have looked kinda weird, but I don't care. I am so happy that I chose to do this an I am looking forward to a happier and healhier lifestyle.
Mahalo to all the ladies who took the time to answer all of my pre-op questions. I really appreciate all your help.
Aloha!
Great questions. I do not have any nutritional information on the tako poke, but it looks like the tako is just a seasoning. I do not see anything calorically harmful about this. Poke is a great source of protein so preparing this alone would likely be the healthier (lower in calorie choice), but if tako poke is something you have once in awhile, that is fine. I do know that a little over 1/2 cup of Ahi Poke salad is 60-70 calories, 11 g protein, and <1 g carb, so this is a great choice.
I do agree that I'd like you to get your protein in through food but some people prefer to continue using protein shakes to help them get to the 70-80 g protein/day and that is absolutely fine with me. Many share the same feelings with you about not feeling like a breakfast so they'll have a protein drink throughout the morning and that is a perfectly acceptable substitute.
I hope this helps!

Wow...in 2 weeks my new life will begin. My sister and I are both having the RNY procedure done with Dr. C. I'm so thankful for my older sister because she's very organized and anal...so all the questions I know I want to ask...she already has the answer to them. We leave on the 6th of July with our hubby's to San Francisco. Any advice on preparation, post op recovery, etc. I'm excited and anixous all at the same time!
hubby and i are in Ohio and getting ready to make our move to the big island-Hamaku coast area maybe? -looking for someone to talk to off board about a few non wls related things....
we'd be there already if it weren't for having a house to sell!
Mahalo!
I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.
