San Francisco was beautiful. Nothing like i've seen before. We arrived Monday evening (7/6/09) and I was freezing my okole (butt) off. Glad i brought the jacket. I figured summer time...should be hot, but that's just an island girl mentality!
We went in on 7/8/09. The knots in my tummy weren't as bad as I thought they would be. My husband and big sis waited with me until they took me away to the surgery waiting area. I had all these doc's coming in checking on me. Asking me all the same questions...that really helped with my nerves. Finally i'm walking to the Operating Room. I get on the bed and the last thing I remember was looking up at the big light that shines over head...then I woke up in the recovery room. I really didn't feel any pain...just really groggy. I was finally wheeled to my accomodations for the next two nights. The best thing about that was I knew I was going to see my hubby! My husband was such an awesome support during this whole recovery time and I love him so much for it! I was even more thankful that he had my brother in law their so they could keep each other company while us gals were down for the count.
Recovery in the hospital was pretty different. I couldn't go to the bathroom the first night while being their so the nurses had to put a catheter in to release my bladder. They took it out right away, but that is a feeling I wouldn't want to feel again. I got up and started walking 4-6 hours out of surgery. Took baby steps...that grew to bigger steps and then eventually I was lapping the place. I even would stop by my sisters room to wake her butt up and go walking with me! I was so happy we had each other!
So now 3 weeks out and i'm feeling great. Still getting used to my new body and my new tool, but it's coming along fine. I found that eating mushy fish is something my stomach agrees with. Knowing your body is the most important thing when it comes to figuring out what you can eat. Trust me I have my days...but I'd normally just call my sister and see how she's doing!
Thank you so much to Dr. C and all his staff ( Nicole, Amy, Layla & Anna) you all made me feel real special. Also big big mahalo's to the staff at CPMC ecspecially my lovely nurses from the North 5th Tower! I hope to go visit them one day soon.

Next week on Wednesday, July 29th at noon (Hawaii time), I'll be conducting our first "Telereach" seminar. Its like attending a seminar or support group but over the phone. I'll be discussing the basics of the diet after surgery, and touch on protein supplements, multivitamins and supplements necessary for some patients.
