Topic: I've been approved!
I just got word that I've been approved! I'm so excited I can't think straight. I know that this is only the beginning of a very long journey. I've been reading at least 10 profiles everyday. This web site is the best support I could possibly ask for. I'll be starting a pre-op support group soon. My surgery is tentatively set for the beginning of November.

Aloha Carol....It was so great to see your name on here!! You are doing super and we are both tracking along at about the same place weight loss wise. I, too, am not losing as fast as I'd like, but it is coming off slowly but surely, and I guess that's the name of the game.
Yesterday I went to my first aqua aerobics class at the Kihei pool, and it was great except that there were way too many people...52!! I like my days by myself walking/jogging/exercising in the pool, and will probably keep doing those as well as doing a couple of days of the classes as well.
I hope you'll be at Websiles on Saturday.....Shannon will be there, too. Can't wait to see both of you.
Aloha nui loa,
KarenS
Topic: RE: Hi everyone!
They finally gave me paper work to do yesterday! The night before I was soooo bored I vacuumed the staff office and emptied the trash/shredder...that was my work night. lol Oh well, hopefully things will get better over time.
Hey sidewalk sale at Ala Moana starting from today and over the weekend!! I think I'll check it out tomorrow since tonight is scrapbooking LNO till 10pm. I think we're making holiday cards (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas).
Have a great weekend!

Aloha karen and friends........I've been working quite a bit ( 40-60 hours a week) and never took the time to get my picture set upyte..Anyway
1. Surgery date? August 2, 2006
2. Lbs lost? 38 lbs
3.Main source of protein? Steak, beef, chicken, fish, pork , cottage cheese and yogurt then isopure and and the protica vials
4.How much water? 64-85 oz a day
5.Vitamins? Yes doing great
6.What vitamins? 4 flintstones complete daily & liquid calcium twice a day & 1-b-1 daily as well as the gallstone meds twice daily and b-12 once a week
7. Hair loss? Not that I've noticed really.....I just cut it real short
8. Excercise? Started walking on the treadmill three days after surgery ( very slowly) and now I'm doing 1/2 hr in am and 1/2 hr in pm ( 2 +1/2 miles) per day and tennis on sundays for 2- hours....Just this last 2- weeks started the bowflex ( pumping iron) feels really good ....Thought I'd lose a little faster than this
I lost around a pound a day for three weeks and now that I'm eating my protein it has slowed down.......To 3-lbs a week ( better for the skin saging I guess) I've noticed that I average 500-700 calories a day and do better if I keep my carbs under 30 grams and if I don't exercise I've actually gained weight...............I actually thought that this battle would begin around 6 months out not 2.....I have around 60 more pounds to lose and I've lost around 50 from this time last year..................I haven't been this thin for 20 years...........And this feels wonderful
mahalo to all of you for your support

Welcome to the board...
It is kind of slow here... but we are glad you are here. I am also an Army spouse, I had my surgery in town at Straub. I wish you the best with Tripler(they do have a wonderful program) it takes time but from what I hear it is worth the wait. At the time I went there were no surgeons. If you are every in the SB Family Practice Clinic stop by the front desk and say hello...
Jai
Welcome again...

I'm so close to my surgery I can almost taste it...I went to my last appointment with the "program" on Wednesday the 4th and have called HMSA to see if they have an approval ready for me but they said they haven't had the paper work sent over yet (that was today and on the 9th). *sigh* I'm so impatient...lol...but I know it'll happen soon.

Hey Barbara...
I'm Dana (25, 2 kiddos) and about to have surgery very soon (I hope at least). All I'm waiting for is insurance approval (and that was supposed to have been submitted on Wednesday) so you know I'm over there calling a bunch of times...I think I called twice already. Welcome...the Hawaii board is a little quiet...but there are lots and lots of great woman (and men) around here. =) Good luck.
Dana
Topic: New Here
My name is Barbara and I live on Oahu in Hawaii. I am an Army spouse going through the program at Tripler Army Medical Center for surgery. I am 33 years old with 4 children, 5'3" at 235 lbs. I have a family history of obesity, diabetes, congestive heart failure, high blood pressure...you name it we have it. Fortunately I have not had any issues with those things as of yet, but I do have other aches and pains related to my weight and just under went a sleep study for sleep apnea. I am looking for all types of information, and I have questions to ask as well. Hopefully this will be a way to a new, healthier lifestyle for me.
