Thanks. I have been to this site. There is a lot of great information on it. I guess what I really wanted was personal experience stuff. What I mean by that is like who areas are good and what are not. Again, I appreciate you taking the time and providing me with assistance.

Here's a link to Fort Shafters webpage, most of the armed services on island have a website set up for military families to check out prior to moving here. http://www.usarpac.army.mil/

Topic: Moving to Hawaii..have MANY questions
hello all My husband is in the army and we just learned a few days ago that we are moving to Hawaii in 6 months. We are supposed to be getting stationed at Fort Shafter on the island of Oahu. If anyone can offer any information about on post housing ( conditions, number of rooms available for a family of 3 rank E7, waiting list, etc) Off post housing (good areas, schools, BAD areas, traffic, etc), and any and EVERYTHING you are willing to share. Also deployment info would be nice. We know that there are no chemical companies so, he knows he'll probably be a NBC NCO. I am nervous about this move. I don't want to be stuck somewhere alone with a 3 yr old and my husband deploys as soon as we get there you know? Please feel free to contact me privately if you like. I appreciate your time Cam

Pheewww...that was an experience I don't want to soon go through again...lol. I'm just glad to be home...everyone at the hosiptal was so super nice, but getting up every two hours for blood pressure and oxygen sat wasn't really my idea of fun. It's so hard to eat though...I can only take one tiny little sip befor I feel tight and then I feel tight for an hour. There's no way I can keep up with my protein and liquids if I can only handle that much liquid Thanks so much for everyones words of support...it really ment a lot to me. It's nice to be home and to be able to get back on OH. Talk to you all soon.

Aloha Sharon...and how wonderful that you will be visiting us soon. I live on Maui and know that you will love every minute here. There is just so much to do on Maui, but some of the highlights for me are taking a boatride from Maalaea Harbor out to Molokini to snorkel (or just for the ride if you don't snorkel). A drive upcountry is beautiful......and visit the lavender farm for tea and some local flavor. The Maui Ocean Center (I live about a block away) is fun especially if you have children along. Of course, there are tons of fabulous places to eat/drink/and be merry. Since I live in Maalaea, some of my favoraites are The Blue Marlin (outdoors near the harbor and very casual), and Buzz's Wharf which sits right on the harbor so you can watch the boats coming and going. If you like to shop, check out Whaler's Village in Kaanapali and of course, Lahaina town. Kimo's in downtown Lahaina is a fun place to eat...right on the water...and so is Bubba Gump's. When you arrive, stop at a grocery store and pick up one of the many activities booklets available near the door. They will give you lots of ideas. I hope you have a wonderful trip. Aloha nui loa, KarenS
