My Daughter Tori: Your Neighbor needs your

Help!

Hello Everyone.

I haven't been on here in awhile. I've had a lot happen in my life since last October 31st when I had surgery. As some of you know I lost my wife in a car accident on Thanksgiving last year. And since then I have been able to see my Daughter or (Step-Daughter) Tori. But her Father has been trying to get custody of her and my Wife was trying to get his rights taken away from him. which I won't go into because I want you to watch a video that her 1st Husband put together. and that will explain a lot. And all I ask is for you to circulate this Video and if you can write a letter to the Judge telling him your opinion. You can find this on you tube and if you want I'm on Myspace/ricinindy and on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/profile.php?id=687534515&ref=name

Thank you for Everthing

I want to add the reason He did not serve the 20 to 50yrs was because Mooresville lost the evidence. How do you lose a couch????? Among other thing's.

Also She cryed to me Because her Father told her that she spends to much time with me and her staying the night with me was bad. And when he get's custody of her. she won't see me anymore. How the hell do you tell a 5yr old who's lost so much in her life that your going to take away something else from her? I'm the ONLY DAD SHE KNOW'S! She doesn't know him And she has told me she's scared that he will kill her. which is because she knows what he did to her Twin Brother. She's my Baby and I am just wanting everyone to know what's going on so maybe we can all make a difference in her life!

Topic: First cold after RNY (3 months out) -

Hey Everyone,

It's been 6 days and my cold seems to be slowly getting worse.  I've been taking Tylenol Cold, but it doens't seem to help.

Before my surgery I used to drink Airborne and orange juice alot, but I don't think I can drink them anymore.  Airborne has those fizzy bubbles and all the orange juice I can find has way too much sugar in it.

Any suggestions?

Mahalo,
Malia

So many (if not all) foods are tolerated by most of us post VSG folks. People are always asking me, "Can you eat this?"

I try to maintain the motto: Just because I can, doesn't mean I should.

It's all about making good choices.

Congrats on not needing your cpap machine! That must be a real freedom moment!!! I can't imagine what it is like to have to use one, but I can imagine the relief of not needing one anymore!! Continued success!! ((hugs))

Aloha Lisa!
You're totally normal!  Plateau's happen to everyone. Especially the farther out you get.  My suggestion, get back to basics.  Protein first, low carbs, measure your foods, no snacking and journal everything you eat.  It also helped me to cook everything I ate.  That way I knew exactly how many calories, carbs & protein everything had.  Try if for a couple weeks.  I'm sure the scale will move.
I wouldn't sweat it unless the scale hasn't moved for at least a month.  There are so many factors that can contribute to no loss. (monthy cycle, water, constipation, etc, etc, etc)
Be more conscious of what goes in your mouth and I'm sure the scale will move again!!

Best of Luck!!

Topic: YIKES!! I hope the scale keeps moving!

I am at a plateu (not sure if I spelled that correctly), and I'm hoping that I'm not eating too much and that my weight loss has stopped.  Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with losing the 61 pounds that I have lost in the past 5 1/2 months.  October 8th makes it 6 months post op.  According to the charts for my bone size and height, I should weigh between 120 - 141.  I'm still 29 pounds over weight at 169.  The abdomin and thighs are the last to go.  I have no butt, I still have some boobs but not much.  It's been hard trying to figure out what size bra to buy.  I think I will need a tummy tuck and boob lift when this is all over!  LOL  I hope I'm still on track and that the scale will start moving again.  Should I be worried that I'm eating too much or is this normal?

HANDLING HEAD HUNGER

As discussed last week, the first step in overcoming head hunger is learning to recognize it.  Once you have determined which type of craving you're having (emotional/mental vs. physical hunger), you can then make a plan of action.

QUICK TIPS FOR HANDLING EMOTIONAL CRAVINGS / HEAD HUNGER:

WAIT IT OUT. As mentioned last week, head hunger comes on quickly and demands to be fed immediately. Therefore, playing the waiting game will help you distinguish between whether you are experiencing head hunger or actual physical hunger. If you still want something 15-20 minutes later, chances are you really are hungry.

DISTRACT YOURSELF. Along the same lines, if you shift your focus to something else, the head hunger will usually pass.  Balance your checkbook, make a phone call, or check your e-mail.

EXERCISE. If you are experiencing head hunger and start to exercise, you'll feel better almost instantly.

BRUSH YOUR TEETH OR USE MOUTHWASH. A common signal that you are experiencing head hunger is craving a certain taste.   Nothing tastes good after you've gargled with Listerine!

DON’T FEED YOUR FEELINGS, DEAL WITH THEM!  If you do determine that there is an emotional reason for your hunger, use a healthy, non-food oriented approach to cope with your feelings.  ake a list of several positive coping skills and always keep it handy.

For example:

-  Take a walk or exercise

-  Call a friend or join an on-line chat
-  Brainstorm solutions and problem-solve the issue at hand
-  Express your feelings in a journal or online blog
-  Take a hot bath
-  Meditate or pray
-  Create something (art work, music, etc.)
-  Play with your pets or kids
-  Listen to music or watch a funny movie

Although it is normal to feel emotional from time to time, if you can't shake your mood within two weeks, or it is interfering with your life, you should consider talking to your doctor or consulting with a mental health professional.

PAY ATTENTION. Head hunger may involve “mindless" or unconscious eating. Therefore, always use the “table rule." Only allow yourself to eat while sitting at a table without any distractions (i.e. television, computer, newspaper). Measure out what you are going to eat beforehand and always use utensils.

REMOVE TRIGGER FOODS. Head hunger can be triggered by the sight or smell of food. Avoid stocking the cupboard or refrigerator with comfort foods.  Consider more healthful comfort foods such as a cup of low-calorie tomato soup, high protein hot chocolate, or cup of tea.

WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, USE MODERATION. Remember, we are human and no one is perfect 100% of the time. If you decide to satisfy your craving, do so on a smaller scale. Take out a serving of what you want and put the rest away (i.e. a square of chocolate instead of a bar).

I’d love to hear from you!  What techniques have you found to be most helpful in overcoming head hunger?
