Oahu-Saturday, July 12th from 10am-12pm, Oahu Veteran's Center.
This is a great oppurtunity to learn about the weight loss surgery journey. The second hour is dedicated to our post-op all-stars! We will be discussing relevant issues that arise after surgery. This is a great way for newbies to ask questions only the veterans know!

Topic: Missed my BMI by .3
Ok people I just came back from my PCP's office and my BMI is off by .3 that is 3 little tiny pounds. Dam I knew I should have had the double hamburger with a supersized fries and jumbo coke. Had a salad instead. Well my doctor gave a referal to see Dr. Fowler at Castle Medical Center. It was either him or the Doctor at Queens and since I never did any research on him I guess it is Doctor Fowler. He said that he will not give a referal to a doctor that don't do surgeries locally because my medical don't cover it anyway. He told me that it will be about $1200.00 out of pocket cost I told him that is not a problem. So I just called Nicole to cancel my appointment for next Saturday. She is so nice. My PCP is really cool he told me that if they weigh me that I should get before I go drink plen****er and don't go to the bathroom. I told him I think I have to buy a 5 lb fishing weight and put in in my pocket. That way when it is time to lose way....omg I just lost 5 lbs. He told me that it is unfair that insurance does this however if they didn't everyone would want it. He does preach the lap band however he really don't know that I want the rny. Don't worry girls I am going to the fishing store tomorrow and get me some weights. I told my doctor that to and he just laughed and said I didn't hear that. Now I have to wait for 14 days to got to the seminar.
Aloha,

Aloha Nahealani!!!!! ((hugs))
Welcome. Sounds like you're doing your homework. The initial stages can be very frustrating, I know.
I chose to go to SF and my insurance wouldn't cover anything done out of state, so I became a self-pay. I also opted to have the VSG an I am SO happy that I did.
I am about 1 month out now and loving it! I feel fantastic and have no malabsorption issues. Weight is controlled through restriction instead.
Good luck and malama pono!
P.S. I think I want your job!

Still researching as usual. I love my job. Sit at my desk all day. Play on the computer and out of my 8 hour day I work for maybe at the most 2 hours. Now 2 hours here is a lot however I really look busy researching of the rny and other possibilities. The VGS sounds good too however I don't think it is covered by my insurance. I need more information from my insurance company. They told me 100% and 80% however found out that the surgery is held in SF and I don't know if my medical pays for it. So now back to square 1. I have my appointment with my PCP today so I can go over things with him. Such a nice guy. 8 months ago when he told me about the lap band I said I don't think so my husband will never agree to that. But he planted the seed and it grew and grew and grew now I want the RNY. I just think it would be better because I love that sugar and with the band I know I will. Anyhoo I have 3 friends that have the band and is not doing that good.
Well I just thought I would check in and give everyone a big ALOHA!!!!
