i am back from broke PC land!!
I had a lap band from Dr. C a few years back, My mom, and my sister-in-law all had the same things- with Dr. C- My mom and I had them here, at Pali momi and my SIL in San Francisco... we did this in 05, so i am not sure what what all has changed...
We had a $4000 surgon fee, and Both of us had HMSA- I my co-pay was about 2400 and my moms was about 1900...not sure what there was such a diffrence...but i ended up getting assistance from the hospital beacuse i made under $30,000 and dident have to pay any co-pay... HMSA dident cover a few pre op tests- and that ended up costing me about $300...
I think we may be the only people who dont care for Dr C... we had a few bad experences with him, it could just be us- but i dunno, my mom refueses to see him again- and hasent gotten her band filled in over 2 years...

Topic: RE: Meeting with PCP...
ah...........my BC AND BS Plan says the same thing. and knowing that you have HMO. oh, it gives me hope. you don't live on oahu right? i been reading some of your other messages, and i thought i read something about insur paying or reimbursing part of the airplane ticket? i have since changed my mind about going w/ dr. c, and have decided that i definitely want to go w/ dr. fowler. do i call him and make an appt for consult? or does my pcp make the appt when they do a referral? sorry to keep bugging you, but since im going the same route as you, you're my closest link. i did read about all the tests you took and about how he schedules all appts on the same day for ppl who live off island. what exactly does he do during the consult? and does he let you know that same day if he can/will do the surgery? how soon after that do you have to come back to do the tests, or can you do it where u live? so much stuff to know. i am hoping i get approved and if so that i can have my surgery by dec. or jan the latest. i appreciate all help and info you guys give me. it's so hard to talk to my friends sometimes cause even though i know they are sympathetic to what i'm going through, they have absolutely NO IDEA what it's like to be me. that's why i am so grateful to have found this website. take care!

Yes I did hide them in my bra also bent my knees a little. I know that you are really interested in the VSG but I think you read the other post about Dr. Fowler only doing VSG for over 50 BMI. Whichever surgeon that you pick I know that you will be happy. Both sides have very nice people in there support group.

I am still shy about 2 lbs of BMI 40 however I got two fishing weight to put in my bra. One thing about being over weight is that your boobs are huge and so is the bra that holds them. I don't think they will check those for weights....hehe.
r u serious? that is so funny!! i never wouldve thought of that

After a few tears my husband is on board. He really don't know what procedure I am doing however he knows it is a surgery. I got my check from my 401K to do the surgery and told him that since I had to change doctors it cut half the price so I will have an extra $2500 he told me that I can have half and he can keep the other half. I told him that sounds like a deal. Maybe that is why he was happy for me to do the surgery he takes bribes...haha to funny. I know my husband pretty well don't you think.
I am going to the monthly meeting with Dr. Fowler tomorrow evening and giving them my referral from my PCP. I am getting really excited. Okay....all together I lost 43 lbs in one month. Because I felt like crap lately I had to run some test make sure I didn't have a leak. I am okay...trying to find out why I was heaving so much.
I wish I was a raw fish eater, but never liked it. I can eat the imitation crab. Oh what about the salmon...lomilomi salmon. I think I can handle that...maybe I should go highway inn. What about the chicken laulau? Its nice and soft.
Yeah, anymore suggestions would be nice, and no worry...I get the point "NO rice!!!" What about potato crab/tuna salad?

1. RNY and Lap Band only
2. BMI >40 with a reason why. Note if surgeon just put weight loss that is not a reason.
3. BMI 35-39 with two co-mos
4. BMI >50 you can have a VSG.
As to my plan
1. Insurance pays 100% of surgeon fees for opperation - not the $4500 for Dr. C or $600 for Fowler
2. Insurance pays 100% of Anestesiologist
3. Insurance pays 100% for surgeon assistant
4. Insurance pays 80% for hospital stay.
I am just praying that the 20% that I have to pay is below $3000 or I have to answer to my dh.
hi, nahea, is your insurance hmsa-ppo, or hmo? mine is hmsa-hmo, on my card it says HPH PLUS. hopefully, mine is the same as yours. reading your comment is the most info i've gotten about hmsa. as far as the vsg portion, i guess i qualify for that seeing how my bmi is over 60. anyway, let me know. thanx .......i really wanted dr. c, but, after doing some research i think maybe dr. fowler might be the way to go, though island hopping would be a pain in the ass as i live all the way in hilo. ugh...........and as a side note, when referring to your other half, what does dh mean? i'm assuming it means dear/darling? just wondering

One thing is that if you see Dr. C you won't have to weigh yourself. Whatever you say you weigh is what you weigh. If I am not mistaken Tricare is Military right. Well Military will allow outside Hawaii surgery's. HMSA is gettings strick on outside Hawaii surgerys. I called HMSA two days ago to make sure what was covered on mine and here is the list.1. RNY and Lap Band only

I was going to start a new post but thought I would use this one. I am thinking of things I am planning to eat post op during my soft stage and I was thinking tofu, can salmon, spam, lunch meat wrapped with cheese, chili, spagetti sauce with cheese o ya lots and lots of poke. My husband eats it every day with his beer. I think I will be able to take 4 pieces from him every night. I love lomi oio for the pure stage I think that will be really good. I am thinking about lomi ahi also. I am so glad we live in Hawaii to be able to eat many other things. I don't know what yogart fage is and I looked around and don't know what it is so I guess I ain't trying it. Anyones input would be greatly appreciated.
