Topic: Crossing Over to Transfer Addictions

http://www.obesityhelp.com/group/crossingtotransferaddictions/

Hi All,

There is a new OH Online Support Group. The above link will get you there.
It's called
Crossing Over to Transfer Addictions

This group discusses the issue of transfer addictions (also known as cross addictions) after weight loss surgery. there are millions of people who have undergone gastric bypass who are now dealing with issues of addiction transfer.

For a number of people, giving up overeating leads to adoption of a new compulsion. Addiction transfer occurs when someone is unable or unwilling to rely on one compulsion (for us, it was food) and so switches to a new compulsion (alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling, shopping, internet, porn, etc) due to not having dealt with the underlying issue behind the compulsion.

***Please feel free (and safe) to join and discuss any and/all issues you have regarding Transfer Addiction. ***

WE WILL SUPPORT EACH OTHER WITHOUT JUDGEMENT!

I agree... he's an amazing person and surgeon. I adore him! I feel very fortunate that I am able to have him as my doctor.

Aloha, I had the pleasure of going to the support meeting in Oahu on sat. and meeting other WLS and banders and the Dr. himself........Want to tell you guys here in Hawaii how fortunate you are to have such a devoted Dr. .......I go to at least four meetings  a month in Pa and never has a DR. been there for he meeting, yes we have had some visit........but your Dr. actually does the meeting....very impressed, and very thankful that I was able to come to the meeting, it was nice to meet everyone.....also to put the cherry on the sundae as they say in our past eating habit lanuage....The Dr Criangle gave my husband and myself a ride back to Waikiki , which saved up a good two hours on the bus........again thank you Dr.     Lois

Mahalo, Nicole. We had to have our pictures taken for work. I work at a veterinary hospital. We moved our hospital mid-August and our business "neighbor" is a photographer. So, the doctor agreed to have all our pics taken with our pets and put on display at our new place!

I only have my one kitty, Bast with me in this one since our other kitty, Hoku, is feral and wouldn't be able to do this in a million years... she's special. She knows my hubby and me, but still runs from strangers.

I also have 2 budgies, a Jackson Chameleon (soon to have a second/lady-friend for him), and a white goldfish.

Anyway... I'd still like to lose 10-20. I have gotten comfortable where I am at, though, and have no problem maintaining, so here I sit! Literally! hehhe I hope you're doing well.... you look gorgeous!

E Komo Mai!!! ((hugs)) And congratulations on your decision to make the journey to a healthier and happier you! We're here for you. Agreed, this is a slow and small board, but there are others that are busier and may be more helpful at times. I prefer the quiet space here myself! Support is here when you need it though.

Either way.... welcome and continued success on your journey! ((hugs))

Welcome!  This board has been a huge support to me.  You're gonna love the people.  And although it's a pretty quiet board, everyone is very helpful.

Have you decided on which surgery to have?  Have you chosen a surgeon yet?

Good luck to you!

i'm very appreciative of this site.  I've started my journey for WLS and am so glad to hear the experiences of other people from Hawaii in regards to food. I'm japanese and i'm a local girl..born and raised here in the islands and of all things, i'm lactose intolerent, so i'm kinda 'trippin' out how a lot of foods that many people on this site eat are food items that i don't eat currently...   Hope to make new friends here and i plan to blog alot  and express myself on here..as i love to talk and i'm finding i'm becoming a WLS talker 24/7 and i'm sure nobody wants to hear me say the same thing 20 times.....i love to repeat myself.  Take care and "a hui ho"

Don't like Kaiser at all.  Does HMS have the same doctors as HMSA???  Call HMA and see if the policy they have will cover some plastics.
