See everyone is sayin they didnt have to. I have a diagram on how my plate should look. Half Vegi, 25% lean protien, 25% starch. I have been practicing chewing my food better and taking 25 to 25 mins to eat my meals with smaller bites. Its kinda harder then I thought it would be lol.

I know its a tall order..they said if I didnt lose all of it it is ok as long as they see that I have tried to. Dr said that it would be easier for me during the surgery if I did. I think they just wanna make sure that I will follow up with the diet regiman after surgery.

They know exercise is almost impossible for me as i am in constant pain tho I do try n walk when I can even if I pay for it afterwards.

My husband and son are extremly supporting and understanding. Which I am thankful for I just personaly dont wanna be a crab lol.

Pomaika`i! means good luck????

Congrads!!!   You have to love your friends.  I have been laughing with my friends as we usually meet for coffee, etc.  and they have been so great about calling and including me but instead asking me if I would like to meet for a cup of coffee they offer to take me out for a cup of water or crystal light.  In the words of my friends I am a cheap afternoon.   Keep up the good work.  Sara

I did not have to lose weight before my surgery but they did give me a pre op diet to follow which was trying to eat protien and veggies.  For me the biggest change was trying to eat small meals rather than my one big meal of the day.  I also had to give up soda and really have found that I love water and crystal light.   Good luck and best wishes.  Sara

Hello, I haven't been required to lose any weight pre-op.  I haven't been able to lose 20 pounds in maybe 15 years.

I do have to give up my diet coke habit which is coming along.  I'm really getting down to one per day and am only drinking water and Crystal Lite.

Good luck with your journey.

Wow... that would have been a tall order for me! If I were able to successfully lose 25-30 pounds pre-op I probably would have had the fortitude to continue and lose more on my own without the surgery! Fortunately, my doctor didn't require pre-op weight loss. Hopefully, some others here will chime in with how they did it.

Quitting the carbonated drinks and cigarettes is a big, yet necessary, step. Find things to do that will occupy your time... crafts, walking, music.... anything to busy yourself because those habits are very difficult to break. I know you can do it if you stay focused and remember why you're doing it. I was very fortunate in that respect because I quit smoking YEARS ago along with caffeine which is also a good thing to give up. They aren't just physical habits, they are chemical dependencies as well... so they're tough!!! Know what you're in for, accept what you know you're going to be going through, prepare yourself, and just do it! It's the only way and it isn't easy.

Just ask for your family's support and understanding during this difficult time and again, focus on the positive. Don't make yourself miserable (and people around you) by dwelling on how bad it is. Feeling sorry for yourself won't help. It's up to you and again.... you CAN do it, and honestly, it IS worth it!!!!! YOU are worth it!!! Do it for YOU!!!! (and your family, too!)

Aloha Dawn -

I see where they are seeking survey information, but I don't see a support link here. Am I missing something or do you have to register in order to get to the support place?

Mahalo for the information!
