I am wondering if other post op are having any problems with hard stools. sometimes when I go I feel like am tearing you know where. I'm afraid I'm going to get hemorrhoids. I go to the doctor this Thursday and I'm sure I'll ask him. Any suggestion would be great on how others have dealt with this.

Hi, my big problem was the Bariatric Advantage vitamins. They constipated me severely. After I stopped taking them it took 3 months to return to normal. Now I take Viactiv multi-vitamins and calcium, but I am very careful not to overdo. I have an adjustible lap band so fortunately I don't think I have to be as careful about vitamins as you gastric bypassers. The best thing I discovered was Kashi Go Lean with skim milk. I start my day with a small bowl and have a small bowl before I go to sleep. I love the taste and it makes me feel just right. It is high in protein and in fiber. I highly recommend it. Forgive me Mary Ann for correcting you,....I know you are spelling it the way it sounds....but for the orginal poster...The product is spelled Colace. I only know this because during my pregnancy I had such problems passing my bowels that I had to be manually cleansed and it was not pleasant at all. OK TOOO MUCH INFO. But Colace is great and it is very gentle and does not cause the gas that some fiber products do that contain psyllium. Hope this helps you! God Bless! Steffie

When I read your response about psyllium I remembered that that was what my doctor recommended. I went to GNC and bought the powdered version. I tried mixing it with my cereal but the grainy taste got to me. If I could have mixed it with a plate of spaghetti it would have been fine, but since we can't eat too much it was too difficult to disguise it. I threw it out. Paula

Yea Paula, psyllium causes gas and bloating so I am not sure why your doctor would recommend that to you. Colace is a Docusate Sodium so it does the job sans the gas and other painful side effects and it is safe enough to take everyday like a vitamin. The little gel pills of Colace are really small too so no mixing that yucky grainy psyllium fiber powders or trying to choke down those HUGE Fibercon tablets Steffie
