anyone deciding surgery in Hawaii?
Hi everyone ~
I just recently seen Dr. Steven Fowler at Hon Med Group, but was wondering if there are any other Dr's besides Lapschies, Cirangle, Balfour or Fowler that offer the Lap-Band surgery? Hawaii doesn't have many bariatric surgeons to choose from. Why is this? I'm beginning to think that maybe it's a cultural thing that no one is interested in being a bariatric surgeon for fear they may not make money. You know Polynesian culture, they love to eat or give food.
Any comments, would be greatly appreciated.

hi jackie its nice to see someone actually posting in the hawaii forum. i often check here once in awhile, and your the first i saw that is actually from hawaii. im from ewa beach im sorry i cant help you with any of your questions. I have kaiser and am having the RYN surgery done late aug or early sept im sooo excited and scared at the same time. well feel free to email me if ya want. byeee
What's up Robert!! Wow, nice to hear someone from hawaii and who lives near me. I live in Waipahu. I have been looking into this surgery since earlier this year. I know the RYN is the most common surgery and very successful. I know you'll be fine. Alot of people have been doing this for years. i love looking at the Obesity Photos from the Main Page and reading the Lap Band & Hawaii forums. I just found out that Dr. Steven Fowler from Hon Med Group will be starting surgery in August of this year at Castle Med Ctr. Hopefully, I can have surgery soon after you. Keep in touch and let me know how your doing. Take care and thanks for posting~! Jackie
Hi Robert, congratulations on your surgery date. I live on Maui and had surgery through the Kaiser program too. It is an awesome program. Who will be your surgeon? Mine was Dr. Weber, he is an incredable doctor. I also have heard great things about Dr. Payne. I had a great expierence at Moanalua Hosp. where you will have it. I am so happy for you. The Maui clinic is short a behavorist so they are not moving anyone new through our program over here. Webstyles are all post-ops. For Maui, the last I heard it is a two year waiting list just to get to orientation then another year to get through classes. You are going to do great!!!!!!!!!!!
A hui ho and ka akua me ka aloha
hi im sooo glad to see aother people here that know exactly what im goin through. i mean we all go through pretty much the same but at the same hospital same program its just exciting. wow the waiting list is long isnt it, last i heard is that they had to stop orientations for now because it was gettin tooo packed. but awesome pics and great weight loss good job hehehehehe. oh ya and miscommunication if u havent read my profile imma have surgery in oct no set date yet. ive been presented on the 23rd of this month and found out that they do presentation only on the 3rd friday of each month so i jus missed this months on in like 4 dayz. shux so ill actually be presented on sept 16 then have preop class on oct 12 so im just lettin time pass for now hey let me know what the next thing is after i have the preop class and what to expect in preop class ?????? thank you take care and keep in touch eh hehehehe
Hi Jackie, I tried to reply to your e-mail, but it wouldn't go through. I had laproscopic adjustible lap band surgery with Dr. Lapschies. It took many months before I could get into the free seminar required before you can make an appointment to see him. I think he is very busy, and that there is a lot of business in Hawaii. Although I had my surgery at Kapiolani, Dr. Lapschies now operates at Queen's. If you would like, call me at work, 971-7199, weekdays between 9:00 am and 5:30 pm.
I would also like to say that it is nice for Hawaii people to use this board to communicate and not let that nut with her daily "quotes" monopolize this board.
Aloha, Paula
Hi Paula ~
You crack me up with your comments made earlier to the "nut" . Thank you for your response. Oh, so Dr. Lapschies does his at Queens now. Was it alot of money$$ or less than Dr. Cirangle ($4k)? I'll give you a call tomorrow at work. Thank you so much. I know Lapschies has a seminar tomorrow at 5:30pm Kapiolani. Talk to you soon. Mahalo ~

Hi Jackie! I agree that it's nice to see people from Hawaii on this website.
I have been on the website since January and hardly see anyone posting from Hawaii. I wander why?
I had lap rny by Dr. Paul Cirangle from San Francisco who comes here to do surgery at Pali Momi in Aiea. He is a wonderful doctor, very knowledeable and also very caring and understanding. I know that he also does the lap band because someone from Kaneohe had it done the same week that I had my surgery done (the week of January 10, 2005).
Hope this helps! If you would like more information, please e-mail me at anytime.
Aloha, Pat
