Hi, I am doing research on weight loss surgery because I want to be well informed when I see my surgeon. (I'm still in the very early stages) I am trying to find information on patients who have lived 5,10, 15, 20 years after having their weight loss surgery. I keep finding articles saying there have been no clinical trials on the longevity of this surgery. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I really appreciate any help. Thanks, Jamie

The biggest problem one runs into when researching this is that the surgery gets *******ized continually...changes and alters and varies by surgeon and what they were doing in 1990, is not the same surgery they do today. It's very hard to get stats on the RNY for more than 5 years out. Plus many patients stop attending to their doctors...which really skews the end results. The best studies I've found are at: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ You can put in the search fields you want and find lots of studies posted there. Hope that helps. Tooter

Thank you so much! I personally haven't run into one single person who says they regret having the surgery. Everyone I've spoken with, be it online or in person is very thankful for having had the surgery and say their lives have changed drastically and it's all positive. I just want to be as informed as possible about the choice I'm making. I think as with anything there will always be someone totally against it. I would love to say that my entire family is backing me wholeheartedly but that just isn't the case. I love them but they've never had to walk a mile with my knees... Thanks again for your help, Jamie
