Aloha From Illinois!! Have questions about some grinds!

Aloha everyone,

I used to live in Honolulu, back in the day when Outrigger rez was still at the East, but have not lost my love for Hawaii or  local food.   Hopefully to be there in November, but I still fix food  myself when I have a craving, so don't want to wait till then.

So, I am having really bad cravings for local food right now, but won't be eating regular food again until the end of next month.  So, my question is to everyone what was tolerable to you at how far out.  I.e. were you able to eat rice early in?  Is terri chicken or katsu now a no go forever?  Loco moco, sweet & sour pork hawaiian style (as the mainland sweet & sour is not the same!)?  Is panko or mochiko flour a problem for anyone?  Aloha shoyu tolerable?

Can anyone advise what is good during the pureed/soft food stage?

I look forward to your answers as they will be very helpful!

Malaho!

Paula there is a lot of Hawaiian food that I can eat.  I still go to Luaus and can eat almost everything.  Laulaus, Kalua Pig, Lomilomi Salmon, Squid Luau.  I can eat a little chicken longrice but I really don't eat to much of the stuff because of the noodles but I can eat it without problems.  I love to eat poke and sashimi.  This is an everyday food for me.

As for food that is found at L&L like the terri chicken and chicken katsu I don't eat that stuff to much.  If it is at a potluck I will eat I small cut up piece and that is it if any.

One thing I love to make is pork and squash.  Omg that must be the best thing ever besides my country style pork ribs with white stem cabbage.  I can eat this everyday 3 times a day.  I had these for my soft food stage along with beef stew no rice.

I can have Aloha Shoyu with no problem.  Shoyu Chicken is still one of my favorite chickens because I can't eat fried chicken to much without getting the foamies.

Aloha,
Asia

Mahalo Nahealani!!

That is so good to hear.  My soft stage starts next week, but,  I havent had the country ribs, but kalua pork & cabbage sounds like a plan.  The no rice thing for now will be hard.

Aloha

Hey Lois, I sure will.  I won't know for sure till about sep/oct, but it will be around thanksgiving. It's my b'day present to myself, so I will be staying in Waikiki.

Local food!!!  I am so looking forward to this trip, but my eyes will truly be bigger then my stomach this time around!  That will be hard, but I'll be six months out by then, so I should be able to eat more than I am now, surely?

It's going ok. Liquids are putting me in pain, but my doc is going to do a scope to see what the problem is on Thursday.  So, right now just trying to get into a routine of liquids, eating, exercising & taking supplements.
