I'm convinced that i've developed non-fasting hypoglycemia

After having a few episodes of this, researching, researching and doing more research......i'm convinced that i've developed Non Fasting Hypoglycemia or Reactive Hypoglycemia. With that being said.......it's back to changing my eating habits back to protein and fruits-n-veggies. No more simple carbs for me. I'm not calling it a 'diet' but rather back to my lifestyle change that i took on 2 years ago.

Some RNY'ers may experience this same type of symtoms while dumping. Mine is due to a surge in carbs!!! My husbands weakness of chips has to be my poison now.

Aloha Michelle-
What kinds of "episodes" are you having that have lead you to research in that direction? You're always so successful at what you do.

Symptoms are sweaty, hot, shaky......very uncomfortable feeling. It happens if I have too much carbs(i think) and it happens just about 30 minutes after ingesting. Soooo......my self diagnosis is that it's a Non Fasting type of Hypoglycemia or they call it Reactive Hypoglycemia.

Since yesterdays episode, i am limiting my intake and logging what I eat/drink. I told my hubby.....sorry honey.....looks like i'll be losing some more weight. LOL.....I'll need to wait a little longer before re-sizing my wedding ring.......

I'm at work right now and don't have Dr. C's recommended guidelines with me. If someone logs on and has his guidelines, could you let me know what they are??? I can't remember them....as i have it posted on my refrig at home.

aloha!

Aloha Michelle-Have you ever tested your blood sugars? Does anyone you know have a test machine you could use  for a week or so? One of the best things about having gestational diabetes with my second pregnancy  was having to test my blood sugar 4X daily- in the AM and then after every meal. I learned very quickly which foods jacked up my blood sugar and was able to control it rhough diet alone. Now I use that information to avoid BG spikes ( which results in an insulin surge, which results in plunging BG, which results in carb craving- vicious cycle!)I found that ANYTHING processed in the grain department- breakfast cereals, white bread or bagels, pasta- jacked it up. Whole grains were better. So I now eat any simple carbs ( fruit, etc) with some protein or fat- apples dipped in Greek yogurt, or peanut or almond butter, sunflower seeds with a peach, crackers with string cheese- and choose mostly Low Glycemic Index foods when I can. If you PM me your personal email, I will send you a great list of Low vs High GI foods that gives you some choices that might help- it was a handout at a nutrition class I went to.
I do think you should document it with an Accucheck or other blodd sugar monitor if you can- otherwise you might be chasing the wrong bird. And if you combine your simple carbs with some fat or protein at the same time, you might not have to give them all up.
PM me if you want me to send you those sheets- XOXOLori

I am so glad you had the VSG if you had the RNY you would have been miserable.  I only dumped once and that was bad.  Now I can eat anything without dumping.

You look absolutely fantastic!!!!
