Follow up with Dr. Fowler

Hello all,
Sorry  I have not been on the board as much but I wanted to share some good news.   I met with Dr. Fowler today and I am doing excellent.  I am down 36 pounds from my surgery weight and am really learning a lot about myself and my relationship with food.   Here are some things I have learned.

1.  People eat way too fast.   My mom and auntie were here and they are skinny people but they can chow in record time.   It is no wonder I never felt full as I am a true work addict and have let my work take over my life and really never sat down and enjoyed my food.
2.  I really do not miss soda.  I started keeping track of how many sodas my friends and family buy just being out and about and each day I would still have money left over and my family needed to get more money from the ATM.  Soda and coffee about $ 2.00 and one day my mom and friend spent about $ 10.00 just in soda.
3. The smell of McDonalds is just not as great as it once was.

Hope this finds you all well and losing.  Sara

i am proud of you Sara.  I was so happy to see u today eve if it was only for a few minutes.  I will post the pics soon.  I too have learned a lot.
I CAN live without rice and be ok.
I CAN exercise when I put my mind to it.
I DON'T crave sodas anymore too.
I STILL eat too fast.
I AM impatient (i want everything NOW..lol)
There is a better life after WLS surgery!

See u in June!

Hi Sara,

It's great to hear that you are doing so well! I have to say that the things you learned are very similar to the ones I have learned and I wanted to add on to your list with a few things that I have learned.

1. I am capable of making good food choices.
2. I am a lot more aware of everything that I put in my mouth.
3. I don't think about food all the time anymore.

Take care,
Ole

 Hi Sara,

Thanks so much for the update... I think of you often and have been wondering how you are.  I love the list you started and everyone's additions... I'll add a few of my own.

1.  I can survive on just 1/2 cup of food at each meal.
2.  I can live without soda, wine, beer, McDonalds, and RICE (who would have thought!)
3.  I enjoy cooking heathy meals for myself and my family... we're worth it!
4.  I LOVE getting rid of clothes that are too big (I had a garage sale today and sold my 2X's and made $100... time for a shopping trip)
5.  I really love keeping in touch with all of you on the Hawaii Board.

Hey guys,
Thanks for keeping the momentum.  I am so glad that my journey in life has led me here and with all of you.  I am learning so much and wish I was not so stubborn and would have learned the easy way but then I would not be here so it all has a purpose.  Glad everyone is on the way to a healthier life.

Aloha Sara,

That is so true about people eating too fast and being banded over a year you'd think I'd learn, but given our hectic lives and always rushing here and there sometimes makes us forget to slow down.  I catch myself eating way to fast when I'm multi-tasking like trying to eat while I'm talking on the phone.  What a horrible feeling.

I also don't miss soda, but I do miss the occassional beer every once in awhile.  New Years was weird my first year out as I can't drink the celebratory champagne like before.  This New Years and for my wedding reception I drank this Moscato which is a very light white wine that tastes like Asti Spumante without the bubble.  Only drink it for special ocassions though.

Hope all is well with everyone as I've been out of contact with this board since my "new life" led me to meet my new husband.

Keep losing all............Carmen
