Surgery Scheduled!

Aloha All,

Well, I've been 'lurking' for sometime now, and am finally joining this board.  I'm on Maui, and I'm scheduled to be banded by Dr. Fowler on March 17th.  Now that it's all in the 'chute' I'm actually starting to feel a bit nervous - particularly about the post-op ditet.  Is it easier than I'm imagining?  Meanwhile, I'm thrilled with the team at Castle, and am looking forward to the pre-op consult on the 13th.

So, I've been experimenting with the Nectar products, and so far I've been 'gagging' on them. (It's more of the aroma of the product that's getting to me.) Is there anything else out there that anyone can suggest?   Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Coleen

Aloha Coleen! E Komo Mai!

Congratulations on getting your date! Just wanted to welcome you. I'm just getting ready for work, but wanted to take a moment to wish you well on your journey. I'll write more later today regarding my experiences with protein drinks. A couple things to remember are that everyone has different taste preferences, so experimentation is going to be YOUR decision maker and your tastes may change afterward. I know many WLS patients tastes preferences change after surgery, but not sure how that holds true for the "bandsters." Hopefully, someone else will chime in. There is also a "band" board here on OH. Hopefully, you're reading that board as well. I'm sure others can help you there, too! We have a few of Dr. Fowler's people here as you already know! Yay!

One more thing before I forget.... GNC (at the Queen Kaahumanu Mall) offer a lot of things you can try and return if you don't like them as long as you keep the receipt! Don't buy in huge quantities at first in case your taste buds change their minds.

Ok... gotta run this AM.... will write more later!

A hui hou!

 Hi Colleen!

Welcome and congratulations on your surgery date!  I was banded by Dr. Fowler on January 21st and couldn't be happier.  The post op diet seems daunting, but is really "do-able".  Every day is a learning experience, and with the weight coming off at a nice pace, it's pretty easy to stay on track!  I'm having my first fill this friday, so I'll be sure to post about my experience after that.

Couldn't say enough great things about Dr. Fowler and his team... as well as the staff at Castle.  They really made this nerve racking experience very pleasant!

Good luck to you and keep in touch!

oh yah i forgot to mention about my experience with the protein drinks.....i havent found any that i like yet but im very picky too...but i have tasted the unflavored one from unjury that i might order because that is the only one so far that doesnt have much taste and u can put it in anything.  I have not been doing protein drinks too much because i am still looking for ones that i can actually tolerate.good luck with ur choices though. ttyl

Congratulations on your date!  I like the Nectar Cappuccino.  I also have the vanilla bean but can only drink that with syrup added.  I like the caramel.
Also, I can't drink them with water, but I do drink them with unsweetened soy milk.
Hope that helps and good luck!!

Aloha Colleen!

Were you at the info session on January 22? If so, I believe we met. I'm from the Big Island. I'm glad you joined this sight. I've found it to be so supportive. May the Force be with you in your new journey!

By the way, your dogs are adorable! I have a Schnauzer who is both a treasure and a pain in the ass.

Aloha,
Scooby (Barb)

Aloha to all!

Sorry for the delay in getting back to all, but I'm sure you all have had weeks where the days just disappear.  And boy, have I had one.  Anyway, thanks for all your support and the lovely welcome I received from this board.

I am now two weeks away from surgery and my mind has become very very active.  Though I've managed to lose a few pounds, it has been amazing to hear my mind say,  "Ahh, go ahead, eat that (whatever) it will be your last chance...",  Now I know that that's not true, and already my habits are changing, however I must admit I am in mourning when I go to Zippy's and see one of those Napoleon Napples (which are begging & pleading with me to take a bite  -  but I stay strong!).

Here I am at the ripe age of 54, a BMI of over 50, and deep down I know that my life has not ever been about bites, but more about entire mouthfuls.  Had it been about bites I meet be  writing on a different board.

I did receive the Bariatric Advantage vitamins in the mail and I was extremely surprised on just how good the Lemon Cream flavor tasted.  That certainly lowered my anxiety.  And I'm sending out a thanks for the Netrition site.  The USPS charge for shipping 3 bottles of Davinci came a touch more than the acutal price, but hey, it was worth it.

I've been also catching up on the board, and you guys are doing great.  I am very hopeful that I will be able to report the same fabulous results that I'm reading here!

So HIgurl, I hope we get a chance to say 'hi' to each other on the 13th.  I've really enjoyed reading your blog.  And to Makena, PinkShrimp, Nicole, Asia, Mami, well, I feel liking I'm already getting to you - so a big mahalo for that.

And Scooby, we did meet at the January info session.  I look forward to hearing more about your journey. I've notice that time is moving very quickly.

Aloha to all,
Coleen
