Does anyone else feel or felt the way I do?
Aloha!
I'm so glad I found a forum that can help me get through my struggle. Like many of you I have battled with my weight for many years, and i'm at the point of throwing up my white flag. I'm 5 ft 8.5 in, 245 lbs, with a BMI of 37. I was just diagnosed with early stages of lupus last year and with my health slowly deteriorating I know I have to do something.
I have my initial appt with my PCM on Weds and I'm so afraid he won't refer me to a bariatric surgeon. According to Tricare I have to be at least 100 lbs overweight or have a BMI of 35 or more with a life-threatening condition. Does DLE count as life threatening?
I'm ready... I need to take care of ME.
just thinking out loud...

While I can't answer your question regarding DLE, I can feel your frustration and desire to make a better life for yourself. I felt that way over a year ago when I realized WLS was an option... possibly my only option at my stage of the game. My BMI was higher than yours (42), but I had no serious co-morbidities. I just knew I was MO and needed to get healthy again to extend my life and reduce the risks I was facing if I didn't do something soon.
I had the VSG on May 31, 2008 and I am now leading a happy, active life knowing I took control of my life and overcame my bad eating habits.
It's a wonderful journey and I wish you all the happiness you deserve. Yes, you are ready to take care of YOU! It's the first step!! Go for it!
Malama pono & a hui hou!
