Got my CPAP machine
So, I got my CPAP machine yesterday. When I went to the medical supply store to pick it up, they showed me how to use it and set it for me. Then they tested the machine on me. It was HORRIBLE! I know I was given one in the middle of the night during my sleep study, but I don't remember it being so bad!
The pressure is so strong and even makes my ears pop. If I try to talk I loose my breath completely. After I left the store I was burping for hours from all the air that was pushed in! Did anyone else have this problem?
Of course, I'm hoping I don't have to use it too long.... but it's frustrating using it at all!
Your suggests and help is always appreciated!

Hi Viki,
Well, I used the machine last night and it actually is not too bad. The pressure is much more tolerable when you're laying down and not talking (I was sitting up and talking at the medical supply store).
So I used it for a few hours and then turned it off so I could get some sleep...
The most bothersome is the mask actually, the longer you wear it the more you "feel" it on your face. But I'm sure I'll get used to it.
My husband said the white noise of the machine was actually kind of nice too... drowns out the noises in the neighborhood.
Anyway, it looks like this I too will survive!

I too have a problem with the air rushing in - a lot of it and fast. When I turn my machine on it isn't usually bad until later and then it suddenly kicks up a few knotches and i have to get it off my face real fast.
I have talked to my doctor but he won't turn the number down (it's at 8) and he says it is working okay. So ...
Because it does that i don't use it as much as I need to.
Something else is that I have found that with headaches if i put the machine on and breath with it for a while my headache clears up.
Also i recently had pain in my left arm. it worried me. i thought it might be a stroke coming on. so i put my machine on to get the air circulating and after a while the pain subsided.
it is impressive what oxygen going through your body properly can do for you. and it is something else to find out all the things that can go wrong from not having oxygen going through your body properly.

So to update you all on this machine... I am using it for a few hours each night. The pressure is not bad anymore and I do feel better using it. My only complaint now (yes, I have to have one) is the mask is very uncomfortable. Which is why I end up taking it off.
Not as bad as I had envisioned.... Dr. Fowler says I'll only need it for a while.
