what are you eating?
Calling all localz-- you know who you are. Our local tastes are truly unique. I'd like to get some ideas from you guyz about healthy stuff to eat that we can get in our local stores. I'll start- love to eat Tilapia (they used to sell it at Waipio Costco but not there anymore, found them @ Sam's Club). Each frozen fillet is individually wrapped. Take out of the plastic wrap while frozen, pour some olive oil (or spray Pam), salt, lemon pepper, cover and microwave for just 5 minutes. Done. Delicious, flakey and very healthy. Any other ideas for ono and healthy eats?
I enjoy chicken... so many ways to prepare it; from teri-style to bbq (no skin and cut up small). I also enjoy different poke... mussel, shrimp, ahi, and taco. It's all good protein and the kimchee (kimchi) spices give it some kick!
(Probably one of my favorite things, occasionally, is steak... just a good, lean 3 oz. steak on the grill. A little steamed broccoli on the side and yum!)
Fish is a frequent protein for me... so many different kinds and all good and again it can be prepared so many different ways with spices and herbs.... or fish tacos!! No shell, of course, but more of a bowl dish/salad for me.
Eggs are another good protein source. I've gotten either the veggie or turkey breakfast sausage to go with it and can even add cheese to the egg for added flavor.
EDAMAME!!!!! Can't get enough of this, but measure out the portions since too many carbs can sneak in if you're not careful.
Not so "local," but also high on my list of favorites is string cheese. These are an excellent food for me because I get to play with it and it takes me a while to eat a single stick... it's the fun food in my life!
My mochi and malasada days are probably gone. Haven't craved them either, so that's good. Same goes for sushi, but I hope to eventually have just a little rice once in a RARE while. My hubby makes some mean sushi and I miss that a little. I remember how good it is, but again, don't really have a desire for it yet. Since I am still in the losing phase, I want to maximize my eating choices but stay away from the carbs as much as possible.
Smoked marlin or any other fish is a real treat because of the cost, but again.... good food choices for variety. Careful on the sodium and sugar (depending on if it was marinated), but for an occasional treat, it's ok.
I've not had any problems eating any food. I just make sure I cut things into teeny-tiny pieces, and chew, chew, chew... oh! and eat slowly.
Tuna, cottage cheese... more good choices. Hmmm.... can't think of anything else right now. Maybe someone else has more ideas?
A hui hou!

I eat everything and anything. This includes dessert. Now I don't go overboard to say the least. Lets take for example last week I went to a christmas party for my company. There was over 10 different desserts. I picked 4 that I wanted to try. I took the smallest piece and cut them in half and put them on a little plate. When I got back to the table I took a bite of each. Now my bite is the size that you would feed a 4 month old learning to eat food. So not much at all. Then I gave the rest to my husband to eat.
When I go to luaus I eat a little bit of everything again in moderation. I usually make my 3 year old a plate and pick on her plate. This way whatever I don't eat she will finish. She eats way more than me now.
I love to cook shrimp. Butter garlic, cajun, ****tail, stir fry, you name it I love it. Seafood is my favorite. I love jerky too. Fish jerky, beef jerky and turkey jerky.
I stay away from noodles and rice. I will eat whole wheat crackers but not to many.
I hope this helped.
