Aloha- new to the site
Aloha everyone, been reading your posts for a while now and decided to take the plunge and join you. I am almost 2 weeks postop RNY (done at Queen's). First few days postop was a little rough but everday gets better and better. No more diabetic meds but am monitoring the BP closely, hopefully one day won't need those meds either. I live in Mililani and work in Kaneohe. I was born and raised on School St. in Kalihi. I plan to get back to work on Nov 1 if not sooner. I was told we had to take off a minimum of 4 weeks postop but I don't know, I'm already feeling energetic and good to go, of course always feeling full. even when I first wake up. Ahui Hou!
E Komo Mai!
Great to have you on board! Every doctor's guildelines are different regarding post-op stuff. It can be confusing!
I could have gone back to work after a week easily, but I hadn't taken a vacation in over 5 years, so I decided to take two off and really relax and recover and get to know my body. Once I was off clear liquids, I was more comfortable going out for extended periods because, quite frankly, when I was on clear liquids, I wanted to be near a bathroom "just in case!" I was always SO regular, but all that went out the window post-op! I know... sorry...Too much information! And we just met! Sorry! Oh well... if you've been reading the boards, you know we tell it like it is!
Keep us posted on your progress and if you have any questions. We're all here for you!!!!!!
((hugs))

Thanks Makena. Don't worry, it's not too much information. I'll let you know if/when it is. If it's related to our journey, I'm interested. Today I went to GNC in Wahiawa and found that the Isopure drinks , fruit flavors that I like, were on sale for $3.59 instead of $4.69. I bought a bunch. You probably know that they're great becaue it's 20 oz with 40 g protein. I also got a large container of Isopure powder (Strawberries n Cream) that has 50! yes 50! grams protein per scoop. I hope it tastes good. To tell you the truth, when I got home, I was tired. So I think, like you, I will enjoy myself. I waited so long to take this time off and work can be a really crazy place to be. I could go in earlier and do some overtime for some Xmas kala but I think I will enjoy myself as much as possible, sleep, rest, read, watch my Netflix, see friends, visit with cyber friends, etc.only wish I could get in the swimming pool. (Am not even 2 weeks out yet, so that's a no-no ). Well, there I go rambling. Again, thanks for your warm welcome.
Welcome to the Hawaii Board Hapagirl. We always like to welcome new faces.
Everyone's recovery is different. I had surgery on Tuesday and went back to work the following Monday. I was just fine. Let me tell you work is so much easier than watching the children. This surgery is the best thing that I have ever done for myself. Prior to this surgery I thought doing the laser eye surgery was the best but this is way better.
I think the best feeling is going to a restaurant and getting full off of one cup of clam chowder or even going to a party and not eating everything that comes out of the kitchen. It is so strange how when you are big people watch how much food you put on your plate and when you are done you still go to the dessert table. If I am not mistaken we all have been there this is why we had the surgery.
Feel free to talk about whatever you want to on this board. We are all on the same boat.
Welcome!!!

Thanks Asia. I am looking forward to taking my journey with all of you. It's important to me because I believe that we all can understand and relate to each other being that we are either local or kama'aina. I think people in Hawaii are different from the mainland in that we REALLY get into socializing with food and giving with food. So much revolves around food. Also our food tastes are a little different so our culinary challenges are different. Anyway, thanks for the welcome!
