I just found out yesterday that HMSA is going to start covering Lap Band fills.  How cool is that.  Too bad I have UHA!!  I guess I need to get on the phone and start calling my insurance company and try to convince them to start covering as well.

Aloha Gigi!

Good luck with that. I have UHA as well. I have to admit they helped pay for testing and meds, but they wouldn't cover my surgery at all unless I used one of the doctors in their network. So, I had to go the self-pay route to get the doctor and surgery that I wanted. I hope someday they'll realize how WLS can save them money (hense allowing them to make money since that is what they are all about) and start covering these procedures. Ok... I vented!

Best to you always~!

united Health Alliance.  It is the other major insurance here in Hawaii,  It is pretty good and it covered 100% of my surgery.  I just paid the program fee and my co pays for the doctor visits which is only $12.  It is pretty good.

My disappointment with UHA was that they would only cover doctors in their network. It took away my choice of doctor and procedure. I wanted VSG and I wanted Dr. Cirangle. I also wanted a facility that was a Center of Excellence. Thus, I became a self-pay.

I had a nice chat with our rep today and she suggested I write a letter to them since there are new reports out and present my case once more. They have been known to do rebates. I highly doubt it because I went out of state to California for the surgery, but who knows. If I explain how much money I have saved them already and how much more my projected meds and ailments could have cost them, they might find it in their heart to at least listen and maybe someday they will help someone else. Who knows?!

Mahalo, mahalo Gigi!!

I go to my first consultation with Dr. Lapschies in October! So hopefully before the end of the year, I'll have surgery.

My ultimate goal is to be healthy enough to conceive our first child... So I guess we'll try a year after surgery as reccommended by Dr.'s.

My goal is to have a baby as well.  I am looking forward to that most of all.  Good luck with your process!!  It is the best decision I made for myself.
