Woah! Earthquakes in Hawaii, so sorry
Oh My,! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean for that earthquake to hit you all. They are supposed to stay in SoCal or Japan. I hope everyone is OK. My prayers go to you all. Post on the main messageboard if you need any help. We are all here for you.
We in California, totally understand what you are going through. It's unnerving.
Again, I pray that everything is OK over there on your beautiful Islands.
Thank you for your wonderful thoughts. It was a little shaky here on Oahu, but the Big Island got the worst of it. But thankfully, no deaths, no major tragedies. Just a few laserations and a small amount of structural damage on the Big Island, but I think everyone is doing good.
Our power just got up and going, and live will be back to normal tomorrow. Just a day to sit around with family and talk story. It was actually nice to have all the distractions off and just being with family.
So glad things aren't so bad on Oahu. Have you heard from anyone on the Big Island?
Is there a huge eruption expected? Or did this relieve some of the pressure in the volcano?
I feel so bad for those that live there and don't know what's next.
I know that feeling, I've been through 3 major earthquakes, near the epicenter each time. It is so hard to sleep.
My prayers are with you all.
According to the news the earthquake was a result of a buildup from the bunch of minor volcanic earthquakes they've had there. I've heard from my uncle that they had sink holes in the road and around his neighborhood he said there was a 10 foot by 15 foot sinkhole with no bottom in sight and smoke coming out of it. But Big Island is completely made up of lava tubes underground so I could imagine that this would be the norm for a earthquake and aftershocks of that magnitude. Big Island was very close to the epicenter...if I'm not mistaken 8 miles away or something. They got the brunt of it...we on Oahu just got some tremors. Nothing too major.
Oahu had no power for hours and hours (we waited over 14 hours) for power to be restored to my job. That was the most frustrating thing about the earthquake...they turned off the power turbines and it took many many hours to get it back on. Tomorrow will be life as usual, I think everyone enjoyed the day off here. Too bad I still had to go in to work and implement the "emergency plan for disasters step III."
Awww thanks...it wasn't as bad for us on Oahu. But only now (midnight Monday) are some of us getting electricity back on from 7 am. At my house it wasn't bad...just rattling...but I've heard that on Hawaii (Big Island) they've had some structural damage, landslides and a lot of road work to do. So far no fatalities and I think some of the most severe of injuries was a broken arm or something kinda minor. We are so thankful for the prayers over here...
