I am Finally home and it has been HELL
Not to scare anyone getting ready to have surgery but you need to remember there are risks and they can happen to ANYONE!! I went in for surgery on August 9. I ended up with a kink in my intestine then a leak which they had a hard time seeing because of scar tissue. So they went back in and cut it again and fixed it August 11th. Then There is a ligament they move I guess it used to be your umbilicle cord that usually doesnt bleed, well mine did. So I went in for surgery again August 13th, so they could clean out my body I had a liter and a half of blood in my chest it took 7 hours. Then they decided to keep me sedated with a breathing tube for 12 days. Then I got Pneumonia and my lungs collapsed. I was in ICU at Moanalua from August 9 until August 28 then I got to go to a normal room until Sept 1st when they let me come home I lost 20 pounds in the hospital and have lost 14 since last friday. It is alot!!! Then I had to cut all my hair off(it was down to my butt) because of a huge dreadlock in the back LOL. I have very thick curly hair and it's real easy to Matt right up. Anyway Thats the update for my OH help friends!! And for all of you geting ready for surgery it can happen to anyone I'm 28 and weighed 258 pounds when I went in. THE DOCTORS ARE AWESOME!!! They definately know what they are doing and are very proffesional. My Dr was on vacation and still came in every day to check on me! Anyhooooo Love to hear from you guys!! Aloha Shannon
Shannon! I am so happy to see your name on here, and to know that you are safely home with your wonderful hubby. It was a LONG HAUL for you and we here on Maui were pulling so hard for your safe recovery. I had the privilege of coming to Honolulu and seeing you (I squeezed your hand!) while you were in ICU, and it was scary I have to admit. I'm used to seeing you healthy and feisty, not with a breathing tube. I met your mom, and felt so honored to have her tell me about your journey through hell and back. I'm so glad she came to be with you during that time.
Welcome home, sweet friend...and I will be calling you soon. I've had a bad cold the past few days and talking makes me cough, so I'm holding off on calls for a couple days.
I can't wait to talk to you and hear how you are doing on a daily basis with your new eating plan, etc.
With so much aloha,
Karen
Shannon - I am so deeply sorry that you had such a hard journey and I truely hope you are feeling better.
Any WLS is a risk and it is important that we do everything we can to minimize those risks. It is important that we know as much information about our surgeons, the hospital, and the procedure we choose. When we mess with those intestines, it does increase the risks for problems. That is one of the largest reasons I did not opt of the RNY and instead had the VSG with Dr. Cirangle. ****ep mentioning it because the VSG is not a widely known procedure and I wish the doctors here would perform it because it has less risks (shortterm and longterm) and you get the same results as the RNY - please forgive the small hijack - I just want pre-ops *****ad this to know there is another option)
It is such a shame that you had to cut your hair, you have such beautiful hair in your profile. Well, the good thing about hair is that it does grow back and I am sure yours will be back before you know it. Just make sure you get a cute and sassy cut.
Well, I would say you have had enough go wrong, that it should all be smooth sailing from here on out. Keep those positive thoughts and we will all keep you in our thoughts and hope you are doing well. Again, I am deeply sorry that you had to go through all that trauma. Please take care.
