Aloha my friends....Well, it was just 10 days ago that my son took me to Honolulu from Maui for that long awaited surgery. I am so thankful that it is over, and I'm now learning a whole new way of eating, drinking and thinking about the future. I'm like a chemist in my kitchen these days.......how much protein? Do I need more water? Don't forget calcium, vitamins and B12. Pour leftover cream soup into ice cube trays to make mini meals. Tally up liquid, protein, calories at the end of the day. I wish I could say I was feeling terrific, but I'm still low energy and kind of draggy. I sleep a lot and sit on the couch a lot. But I think I am feeling better each day, and look forward to Tues. when I can drive again! I think getting out of the house will help a lot. To Shannon who has surgery next week.....YOU GO GIRL!! I'll be here cheering for you and waiting to hear how it goes. To Carol who had surgery just this past Wed. YIPPEE! I'm sure you are home by now and we will talk soon. I'm so happy for you. Aloha nui loa, Karen

Shannon, Shannon!! You have been on my mind so strongly today, and then voila...here's a message from you. I will call you later. Carol and I will be waiting for you to join us on the "other side" of surgery. I am so excited for you. Today I drove and went shopping for the first time, and it was a piece of cake! I felt wonderful. Each day it gets a little more easy and real, and you being so young, you will bounce back like crazy. Talk to you soon. GOOD LUCK & KNOW THAT YOU HAVE A CHEERING SECTION WAITING FOR YOU! Aloha nui loa, Karen

Hey Karen what did you drink on your clear liquid diet right before surgery? BTW they just called and my surgery is at 3 now instead of 11

Aloha again! Day before surgery I drank apple juice, had a lot of jello and popsicles, and fortified water. It's a pain in the butt, but so necessary to get you empty. Oh, yes, and I sipped on chicken broth for dinner......not too bad actually. Sorry about the time change.......but I'll be "with you" all day! OXOX, Karen

Hi Karen, Congrats on being post-op! I am almost three years post-op and I am thankful everyday for this surgery. What a wonderful journey it has been for me. I just wanted to comment on the no energy thing....... you just had major surgery! Allow yourself time to rest and heal. I think I was almost three months post-op before I started feeling "normal" again. I look forward to hearing about your loss. Keep us posted!! Kim 11/17/03 307/145

Karen, How are you?? It has been a month since I've heard anything about you, your surgery and how you are doing. Are you okay? Do you plan on coming to Webstiles on Saturday? I'm scheduled for surgery on Sept 13th and I'm getting nervous. Anyway, I hope to hear from you soon. Michelle
