Bowling for Rhinos '06
Hi, I have run "Bowling for Rhinos" for the last 10 years. If anyone is interested here is the information:
(P.S. Kema, Dee, and Kris have met our rhinos and they can tell you how special they are.)
The Honolulu Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers, Inc. (AAZK) is hosting "Bowling for Rhinos '06" at Waialae Bowl, on Saturday, July 15, 2006, at 5:30 p.m. The cost for bowlers is $20.00, whi*****ludes 3 games, shoe rental, and a T-shirt.
Each bowler is asked to bring in a minimum of $25.00 in donations. All bowlers and individual donors of at least $25.00 will be invited back to meet the zoo's rhinos at a later date.
AAZK is an international, non-profit organization of animal keepers and others interested in quality care of animals. We are dedicated to professional animal care, and protecting wildlife and its habitat worldwide. 2006 is the 15th year in which the Honolulu Chapter will participate in Bowling for Rhinos, joining more than 60 other zoos nationwide!
Nationally, AAZK and "Bowling for Rhinos" has raised over $2,375,000 since 1990, entirely through volunteer efforts. 100% of all donated funds go directly to three rhino conservation organizations.
In Kenya Africa we support the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (LWC) where our donations help protect both Black and White Rhinos and most of the other species native to East Africa. The LWC works as a catalyst for the conservation of wildlife and its habitat. It does this through the protection and management of species and the initiation and support of community conservation and development programs.
In Indonesia AAZK supports the remaining Javan Rhinos at Ujung Kulon National Park and the Sumatran Rhinos in Bukit Barisan Selatan and Way Kambas National Parks.
Indonesia's rhino population plummeted 50% in a matter of five years. Only after the onset of the very intensive and specially trained rhino patrol units has the population held steady. The International Rhino Foundation, US Fish & Wildlife Tiger and Rhino Conservation Fund, World Wildlife Fund, and AAZK are the main contributors to the Rhino Patrol Unit (RPU) program.
Without conservation organizations like AAZK, these animals would surely be extinct today. It is in our hands to continue this work to protect these animals and have their populations return to reasonable sizes. We have made a difference and will continue to do so.
The Honolulu chapter of AAZK needs your help to once again make a significant donation to help save this species which is on the brink of extinction. Your donation is tax deductible. ALL of the proceeds from this event go directly to saving rhinos worldwide.
You can pledge your support by:
1. Individual or Team Bowling: Purchase a $20.00 packet for each bowler and receive 3 games of bowling, shoe rental, pledge sheet, and T-shirt. Each bowler is asked to bring in at least $25.00 in pledges.
2. Prize Donations: Donate an item to be given as a door prize.
3. Sponsor a Bowler
