I know I will soon be getting one or the other surgery. I currently weight 228, and know I need it. I would love any feedback on which of the two surgeries would be best. I have read (and read and read!) so much about both, and there are advantages/disadvantages to either. If anyone especially has had a lap band, Please! Let me know what you think? Thanks to everyone! Marion, I have had my lapband since 4/04 and have lost 123 pounds and LOVE my band! I personally did not want to have some of the side effects my other friends have had witht the gastric bypass, I wanted a shorter operation, shorter recovery time, shorter hospital stay ( I hate hospitals) and back to work faster. If I had to do it all over again I would in a heart beat. My only regret is I did not get my band sooner and enjoy life like I have been since I have so much energy now. If you have any questions, please feel free to answer. Good Luck with your surgery and remember you need to go what feels best for you. Linda

I agree wholeheartedly with Linda. The surgery is less invasive and overnight at the hospital. As with any WLS, the lap band is not a cure it is a tool, and you have to use it wisely. It's also an ongoing process because it is adjustible. If you have any specific questions, let me know. Aloha, Paula

Hello Marion I am in the beginning process of just thinking about long term procedures for weight management. I was thinking about gastric bypass but my dad told me about Lap Band. I have read a lot about both. I currently have Kaiser right now. I am 5"0' and 235 lbs. (BMI 45). I was wondering if you could offer some advice as far Kaiser's procedure for covering the Lap Band??? Basically what steps did you have to go through? Thanks Marissa
