Topic: A major roadblock ALREADY!!
Well, I knew that the process of being approved for WLS was going to be long and arduous, but did not anticipate difficulty so early on.
I went to my OB this AM to have some tests run and asked her to write my Letter of Medical Necessity that is required by Aetna for WLS. She gave me a flat out "no." She said she was not comfortable writing it, and that the only letter she's ever wrtitten for WLS for a patient was for a patient who was diabetic, had infertility issues, high BP and was a lot bigger than me!!
The only reason I asked her to write the letter is because I know darn well my regular GP will not write it either. He is a very old fashioned type who thinks that I can do this on my own with diet and exercise.
Do you think I should make an appt. to go in and talk to him face to face? I really just feel like leaving a msg at his office asking him to write the letter, but don't think that will be very effective!
Any thoughts are truly appreciated.
BTW- I have a BMI of 41 with high cholesterol, back pain and had to have my gallbladder reomoved last December- definitely fit the profile of someone who's severly overweight!
Thanks everyone!

Topic: RE: Realize band recall!!!!
My thoughts exactly. If I were having any complications or not getting good weight loss with a R-band I would definitely be looking into making them pay for a revision.
I almost got a R-band!!! I was registered on the site and dong all my research and everything. I thought it was supposed to be an improvement of the L-band.
I was be panicking if I had one in me now.
R-band's response to this is right on up there with Toyota and the bad brakes. They really need to do some reassuring for their patients.

I have heard he is an excellent surgeon. I didn't think he had been doing the VSG very long, but may just b that his profile isn't updated frequently. U might call the hospital he practices at and get a VSG count from them if u r concerned.

I have never heard a bad thing about your surgeon.
I was sleeved 8/4/10 and am down 50+lbs since then. Love my sleeve.
I am also the mom of 4 young children, ages 8-3 and they were my reason for pursuing weight loss surgery as well. I wanted to live a long life and be the best mom I could be. My weight weighed me down! I was constantly tired, anti social, embarassed, etc. NOW, I'm out and about and playing hard with my babies. Life is good.

I'm sorry I missed it :( Had a very sick little one. Next time around I hope to be there!
Topic: Realize band recall!!!!
Just saw and wanted to share. Apparently they are recalling them, but not wanting to replace it if you already have one in you. Hmmm??? Not good enough for new patients, but we're not going through the expense of taking them out. Sounds like a pile of crap to me!

Dr. Macik performed my sleeve in May and at that time he had performed over a 100. Now that more insurance companies are paying for the surgery I am sure the number will increase. My requirements were his skill as a surgeon and he received not but high marks when I was doing my research.
