New to Board...Hoping to have surgery

Hi, I am new to the board. And I just have a few questions. If anyone can help me. I called to get the schedule for the May 6 upcoming seminar at the Dr I was thinking about using. The nurse told me that I needed to make sure my insurance covered the surgery before I got put on the list to attend. I have been doing tons of research on weight loss surgery and have seen many people get approved with my insurance. So I assumed it would be a breeze. I called my insurance and asked about their policy on weight loss surgery and they told me they do not cover it. I have BCBS of GA/HMO...Has anyone else been told they don't cover it but they were able to get it approved?? Anyone got any ideas or advice on what to do next? My PCP said he would write a letter for medical necessity. So that shouldn't be a problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
