Non-Surgical Advice?

I joined OH when I was preparing to have RNY. In the process, I found out because of other medical problems (Lupus) and me being reliant on prednisone that WLS was not recommended for me. I was considering taking the chance and having it anyway, but in the meantime my insurance (BCBS) stopped covering it. I took that as a sign from God, and I'm fine with that. However, I still have a bunch of weight I need to lose!! (about 130 pounds) Does anyone have any advice for me? I'm proud of you all for your wonderful success and thankful that each of you were able to have the surgery. Knowing that I can't, do you have any words of wisdom for me? Things that work or don't work? Helpful hints? God bless you all and thank you in advance. Jerri

Make a daily food log and hang it on your refrig. Put Time/Food/Calories/Protien/Fat on it Time Food Calories Protien Fat Everthing that goes in your mouth that has calories, your write down when you eat it. The goal is to have under 1900 calories, and over 75 grams of protien. As time goes on try to reduce the fat in your diet (fat is alot of calories). If you hit 1900 calories on any day- no more calories for that day. You need to eat Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Avoid I used 1900 calories but it would be best to get your doctor or nutritionist to advise you on how many calories a day you should have to lose your weight.

Jen, I would go to a nutrionist and have them help you with a meal plan that you can stick to. I also would slowly try and increase my activity level. Three times a week for at least 30 minutes. I would try and attend a some type of support group meeting for encouragement. It seems to help me to be around other people that are dealing with the same issues I am dealing with. I wish you the best of luck. Lea Lewis Obesityhelp.com support group leader
