Hairloss???
There are SEVERAL factors that contribute to the hair loss from gastric bypass surgery. 1) anesthesia.....it's quite commona to oose hair from any surgery due to a side effect of most anesthesias. 2) nutritional loss - with our restricted intake our nutrition level is dimished and since hair is made out of protein and vitamins the lack of having these in our system causes some loss. (There are MORE - but those two are enough reason alone).
You can use the special hair products, and intake extra vitamins and protein but chances are you're going to expirence some hair loss. Remember our bodies will only "store" so much (even as a pre-op) and the rest of any extra you take will be wasted out of your system. (no - I'm not a doctor - but this is information that I have found through research.)
I've gone through a recent surgery and am expirencing some hair loss now - but not in the extreme I was having after my RNY. Don't worry about it though because it DOES grow back (ever so slowly - but it does grow back!.) I had very very thick hair as a pre op - and I'm almost 2 years post and and can finally say most of my hair has grown back.
Hairloss is worth the surgery in my eyes.....
Good luck to ya!
Mandy!
I didn't have Any Significant hairloss. If I did, it only lasted just a few days literally... I did however cut my hair real short almost right after the surgery, but that was coincedental. I also suspect that since I don't have that much of hair to start with, I was speared from it's loss--- there isn't that much to loose anyway..
). I used Prontene Pro-V sheer volume shampoo all along, and Centrum Vits too, but nothing extra for the hair.
Best of luck to you.
hugs, Rita
