Hi everybody- My company is expanding to atlanta later this year and I'm thinking about going with them. I've never been to georgia before and have many, many questions: here are just a few! are there hurricanes/tornado? does it snow? in atlanta, what neighborhoods are safe with reasonable home prices? how bad are the bugs? how many months does the terrible humidity last? any good web sites with this and other information? all input is greatly appreciated. Hello, Melissa On behalf of all Georgians, I hope you decide to move to our fine state. In the Atlanta area you don't have to many hurricanes to worry about, but you might get some wind from one off the coast. I don't ever remember any tornadoe****ting down town, but maybe some areas outside of Atlanta. You might see some snow, but not alot and if you do not for long. As far as the prices of housing goes, I'm not sure. It really depends on where you live. Of course the closer you get to the city, the more it is going to cost. Bugs....well....it is the south. Humidity....again, it is the south. It is last about most of the year, but is really bad in July and August. I hope you decide to move to this great state. It isn't really that bad and you won't find any friendlier(spelling?) people. Have a good day and hope to see ya'll soon. Ken

Here's a few answers I can give ya. Do you know an address or anything that your company is moving to? 'Atlanta' often refers to pretty much anything inside the I-285 perimeter, and a little outside of it, so it can make a big difference depending on what part of Atlanta you're moving to. You can pretty much give up on snow. It'll flurry from time to time, and maybe one day a year we'll have a bit of accumulation. Every once in a while we'll get a good snowfall, but I'd say no more than once every 3-4 years do we get enough snow to really go out and play around in. I can remember about 10 years ago a huge blizzard, so maybe we're due for another one The humidity is pretty much here to stay as well. It's not really that bad except during the summer, but it's noticable just about year round. We'll get pretty heavy rains and wind if a hurricane hits the coast, and a few years ago we had some pretty extensive damage due to hurricanes, but it's very rare. There are tornadoes from time to time, but it seems they're pretty rare within the city. That being said, I love it here. I've lived in and near Atlanta for 15 years, and don't think I'd want to live anywhere else. It's a great mix of being a huge city and having everything you'd want right there, and still having places where you feel like you're living out in the woods once you get just a little bit outta downtown.

Here is a site that can send you information (free). http://www.georgia.org/Travel/InfoDownloads/Brochures.htm Atlanta Chamber of Commerce has information but does cost to send it to you. http://www.metroatlantachamber.com/macoc/newcomersguide/newcomers_new.shtml
