I have been researching this surgery for quite a while. And last year as I was in the stages of switching insurances I found out that none of the options I had/have (I am a teacher and have State Merit) will cover WLS. I was wondering if anyone has had to pay out of pocket for the surgery? How did you do it? Do some surgeons offer finance options? Thanks so much! Mandy

Hello. I didn't have to pay out of pocket for my WLS but I am paying for my Plastic Surgery myself. I learned that if you ask your surgeon and the hospital for a "Prompt Pay Discount" they should both be willing to give you at least a 10% discount because they are getting their money up front and not having to work with the insurance company. Best of luck to you.

I work for the school system as well, and my insurance (United Healthcare) wouldn't pay either. I'm getting a duodenal switch done with Dr. Marchesini this month, and plane tickets, passport and all, it's going to end up around $13,000.

Hi Mandy! IM having surgery next month (open RNY) with Dr. Burrowes in Atl. and I have United Healthcare...so Im self-pay and my surgery is 23,000. That is his fee, hospital stay and anastesia(sorry spelling). Hope this helps you out! Stephanie

Mandy, Memorial Health in Savannah has a bariatrics program and they have a cash option price along with financing help for people who pay out of pocket. Dr. John Angstadt and Dr Whipple run the program.
