Confused about BPD/DS cost...

Hi, I'm in the Atlanta area and have been looking to get the BPD/DS with Dr. Smith in Marietta. I will be a selfpay patient and have been trying to get a ballpark figure for the costs associated with this surgery so that I might obtain financing. In talking to Dr. Smith's office and with the hospital it looks like the total cost is over $30K. That doesn't seem right to me. I thought the costs wouldn't be more than $20K at worst. Am I missing something???? Is this typical????? $30K is beyond my budget and may need to look outside the state (and/or country) which would suck because I really like Dr. Smith and trust him & his program.

Just to let you know, I was a cash patient with Dr. Michael Williams in Marietta for the Lap RNY, and my total out of pocket was between $23500 - $24000. This included the surgeons fee, assistant surgeon, anesthesiologist, and hospital. He is great surgeon, and would trust him with my life, should it ever get to that point. Norma
